Sheffield Wednesday fans lambast Moses Odubajo for role in Hull defeat

Sheffield Wednesday recorded their first defeat under Garry Monk on Tuesday night as Hull City ran out the victors on their own patch.

Tom Eaves’ second-half header was enough to secure all three points at the KCOM Stadium having only been on the pitch for a matter of six minutes.

The Owls rued the absence of Steven Fletcher, who was a shock omission through injury as neither Sam Winnall nor Atdhe Nuhiu could convert any of their chances – Wednesday recorded a total of 12 shots in the game.

The south Yorkshire club slipped to eighth in the table ahead of their fixture with Wigan Athletic on Saturday as they also won in midweek.

Hull’s goal came from good work by Eric Lichaj out on the flank as he beat Wednesday right-back Moses Odubajo to float a pin-point cross onto the head of summer arrival Eaves.

Several of the Hillsborough faithful have since taken to Twitter to criticise the 26-year-old.

One demanded Monk stop playing the right-back while another fan said Odubajo was at fault for the goal, hinting that it wasn’t the first time this season.

The 5 foot 10 defender used to play for Hull before a severe injury put him out of action for nearly two years. He was signed for Wednesday this summer by former boss Steve Bruce having also played under him in east Yorkshire.

Another supporter called his performance a ‘stinker’ with a further member of the Owls crowd suggesting he wasn’t yet at his best.

Leeds’ Ben White and Kalvin Phillips share holiday snaps on Instagram

View this post on InstagramBlue lagooning with my love ?❤️??A post shared by Kalvin Phillips (@kalvinphillips) on Oct 7, 2019 at 11:33am PDT

The two Leeds players have headed off to Iceland together, and while their Instagram posts pay tribute to their significant others, they’ve managed to put enough time aside to have a laugh together.

Watching White and Phillips riding a scooter around Reykjavik together is just brilliant.

This video just goes to show just how quickly the pair have bonded after the defender joined Leeds this summer.

Liverpool fans are not too bothered by England’s loss in Prague

England were beaten 2-1 by Czech Republic on Friday evening as the Three Lions suffered their first qualification defeat for 10 years.

Harry Kane had given the 2018 World Cup semi-finalists the lead in Prague, but the home side deservedly turned things around to secure a huge three points.

There was only one Liverpool player on display in the international fixture with Jordan Henderson lining up in the middle of the park.

Trent Alexander-Arnold would have been tipped by many to start at right-back given how well the Merseyside outfit are doing this term, although Kieran Trippier – now with Atletico Madrid – ultimately got the nod.

It was a disappointing night for Gareth Southgate’s side, but it appears that the Liverpool fans were not really bothered by the defeat.

Indeed, their side are chasing the Premier League title and will also be keen to defend the Champions League crown that they famously won last season.

Club over country has been an interesting debate over the years, and it seems that the Liverpool supporters are only really concerned by their team’s form.

A selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

Tottenham fans loved Giovani Lo Celso’s late introduction on Tuesday night

Giovani Lo Celso made his return from a hip problem in Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday night.

The Argentina international had been on the sidelines since picking up an injury during the September international break.

Lo Celso was given the final 11 minutes against Red Star, though, as he entered the field as a replacement for Dele Alli.

In truth, it was a nice game for the 23-year-old to make his return as Mauricio Pochettino’s side were leading 5-0 at the time against their disappointing opponents.

According to WhoScored, Lo Celso completed 11 of his 14 passes on the field – giving him a pass success rate of 79% for his late cameo.

It would be fair to say that Pochettino’s decision to introduce the summer arrival in the latter stages went down extremely well with the Tottenham fans.

Real Madrid’s predicted lineup vs Galatasaray

It’s pretty safe to say that Real Madrid didn’t really have the best of weekends.

Los Blancos visited the newly-promoted Mallorca on Saturday and ended up embarrassed as they were handed a narrow 1-0 defeat. And now, because of that, Barcelona have jumped above them in the Liga standings.

But for the moment, Zinedine Zidane can’t really focus on the Spanish top-flight since the team have a really tough Champions League fixture ahead of them.

Seeing how they couldn’t tally a win in either of the two opening games in the competition, that makes the Tuesday night clash against Galatasaray a must-win encounter.

And with that do or die mentality that Zidane’s troops should have, it seems unlikely that the Frenchman will be experimenting much with his squad.

With that in mind, here’s what we think Real Madrid’s XI will look like come Tuesday night:

Thibaut Courtois is still very much Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper despite allowing 60 goals in the 44 games he has played for Los Blancos so far. Just this season, he’s been conceding regularly, allowing seven goals in seven games in La Liga, and five in two Champions League clashes.

But despite all of that, he seems to be Zidane’s go-to stopper, already tallying 765 minutes to his name so he’s very much expected to start on Tuesday as well.

The backline should also see no changes whatsoever.

The centre-back pairing of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane is bound to be picked from the get-go seeing how Zidane can use their experience and expertise and the same can be said for Marcelo and Daniel Carvajal, especially considering the latter player was rested last weekend.

One piece of good news for Real is the return of Toni Kroos, who has officially made the squad list, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the German in the starting XI, especially considering the importance of the game in hand.

The same can be said for Casemiro, who’s been one of their crucial players in the campaign and the third man could potentially be James Rodriguez, since the Colombian also started the last game and Luka Modric is still out of the squad altogether.

Eden Hazard will most likely be making his return alongside Karim Benzema as the two will definitely have to put in a big shift on Tuesday night. Seeing how Gareth Bale is still absent, the 19-year-old Vinicius Junior is likely to be given another shot too.

Arsenal fans far from happy with how Emery used Pepe against Wolves

Arsenal fans on Twitter are far from happy with Unai Emery’s usage of Nicolas Pepe in their 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday. The Ivorian winger was left on the bench for the whole match against the Midlands club, and despite Arsenal chasing a goal late in the game, he opted to leave him on the sidelines.Watch Arsenal Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Instead, the Spaniard opted to bring Bukayo Saka and Sead Kolasinac on in the second half, and some fans were baffled by his choice of substitutions.

While some fans were unhappy about Pepe not being brought on, others were fuming that he was even on the bench to begin with as he’s looked much improved in recent weeks.

Indeed, the former Lille man netted two vital goals for the Gunners in their last Europa League match, but he’s been left on the bench just a week and a half later.

In the end, Arsenal dropped points, and the supporters believe that it is at least partly down to Emery’s poor utilisation of the £72m man.

Here’s what Gunners supporters have been saying on Twitter…

Spurs have finally found ideal front six

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Opinion series, which provides analysis, insight and opinion on any issue within the beautiful game, from Paul Pogba’s haircuts to League Two relegation battles…

Tottenham Hotspur have their ideal front six at last.

As Spurs put Red Star Belgrade to the sword in Serbia, winning 4-0, one thing became abundantly clear: Mauricio Pochettino needs to stick instead of twisting.

In a game that could have been something of a banana skin – Liverpool lost to Red Star on the road last season – Spurs turned the volume up to 11 and blew their opponents away.

This season has been characterised by slow, sloppy performances that have lacked the vivacious nature previously present in Pochettino’s teams. They have, for too long, been ponderous on the ball, seemingly unable to make a decision when they approach the opposition box.

On Wednesday, though, that changed.

Pochettino lined up with Harry Kane at the tip of the spear, but he supplemented his threat with Son Heung-Min on the left, Giovani Lo Celso on the right and Dele Alli in the hole. Tanguy Ndombele’s driving runs from midfield – finishing up with five dribbles to his name – made a significant impact, too, as he was partnered with Moussa Sissoko.

So fluid was the performance that Kane didn’t even score, despite it being a complete romping.

Son nabbed two, Lo Celso opened the scoring with his first goal for his new club after his initial loan move from Real Betis in the summer, and Christian Eriksen finished it off in the second half after coming off the bench.

This is the unit that needs to be breaking down defences.

Lo Celso was exceptional, making two key passes and also completing more tackles than any other player on the pitch, including both sets of defenders.

It is a stark contrast to the performance of Eriksen in the 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday; he did not complete a dribble or make a tackle.

Lucas Moura does not offer the same level of work-rate, with Lo Celso, Alli and Son an interchangeable forward three that can switch positions and slickly revolve around Kane.

Of course, there are tweaks that can be made. Eric Dier is not the club’s first-choice centre-back and one imagines that Hugo Lloris will replace Paulo Gazzaniga when he is back fit following his grisly elbow injury.

But the difference on Wednesday was pace, energy and desire. There wasn’t a single player in the attacking phase not pulling their weight.

Against Sheffield United, an organised defensive unit that have conceded just eight goals in the Premier League all season – fewer than both Liverpool and Manchester City – Spurs will need the cut and thrust of Lo Celso, the guile of Alli and the trickery of Son.

They also have options off the bench, with Ryan Sessegnon coming on for a 15-minute cameo against the Serbian outfit and providing the assist for Eriksen, but the message is clear: Pochettino needs to give these players another chance on Saturday.

If he does, they can continue to forge their burgeoning understanding and ensure that they get back to winning ways.

Spurs have not won a Premier League game since September; that can change this weekend, but only if faith is kept.

Leeds United fans laud Kalvin Phillips for his role in the Blackburn victory

Leeds United made it a fifth game unbeaten in the Championship as they stayed within two points of league leaders West Brom after a 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

Patrick Bamford bagged his first goal since August before becoming the provider five minutes later by assisting Jack Harrison’s 35th-minute strike.

The 26-year-old was superbly met with a long-range ball from Kalvin Phillips that stretched over half the pitch, and it was his performance that drew the most plaudits from sections of the Elland Road faithful.

One supporter claimed the defensive midfielder ‘absolutely ran the game’ and had Rovers’ dangerman Bradley Dack in his back pocket all game, which to some extent is true as he failed to score having netted five times this season while another believes Phillips should be in the England equation.

‘Gifted’ and ‘world class’ were two other descriptions of his showing while a further fan said it was another Man of the Match display.

Liverpool fans react to Ryan Fraser transfer update

According to The Athletic journalist James Pearce, there is no truth to rumours that Liverpool are in advanced talks over a January move for Ryan Fraser.

It has been reported by talkSPORT that the Champions League holders, who opened up an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table on Sunday afternoon, are closing in on a swoop for the Bournemouth attacker ahead of the winter transfer window.

However, Pearce has claimed that such speculation ‘is wide of the mark’, with the respected journalist being told that the rumours are ‘nonsense’.

Fraser – out of contract at the Vitality Stadium next summer – has only managed one goal and two assists in 11 Premier League appearances this season.

The 25-year-old contributed seven goals and 14 assists in 38 Premier League outings for the Cherries last term, though.

As expected, a number of Liverpool fans have been on social media reacting to Pearce’s update, and a selection of the tweets can be seen below:
