Keepmoat Stadium

Key Information about Keepmoat Stadium

Keepmoat Stadium has been the home of Doncaster Rovers Football Club since it was opened in 2007.

The multi-purpose all-seated capacity holds just over 15,000 spectators, which is 5,000 more than Belle Vue – the previous home of Doncaster Rovers for 84 years.

The stadium is also home to Doncaster Rugby League Club, and Doncaster Rovers Belles Ladies Football Club, and the ground comprises four geographical stands all sponsored by various local businesses.

A history of Keepmoat Stadium

Keepmoat Stadium was completed in December of 2006, and the brand new stadium is owned by Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council and rented by the three sports clubs. The first game at the new ground famously saw three red cards in a New Year’s Day thriller against Huddersfield Town in 2007.

Doncaster centre-forward Mark McCammon was the first player to score in the new stadium, though the official opening of Keepmoat Stadium was on 3 August 2007, which was the day Doncaster hosted Manchester United in front of over 13,000 fans – the Red Devils went on to win the friendly match 2-0. The summer of 2012 marked a monumental time for Doncaster as it was confirmed that the football club had secured a 99-year operating lease from the borough council which meant the club were back in charge of their new home of football after renting the ground for 6 years.

The brand new stadium also features a new fan area with a bar for them to enjoy pre-match drinks. The actual pitch in Keepmoat Stadium is a hybrid between synthetic fibres and natural grass, providing a truly unique playing experience. This new feature ensures the quality of the pitch remains throughout all seasons and weather, albeit under-soil heating was not installed despite it being a modern pitch.

The East Stand is sponsored by Donasonic, and is commonly known as the family area, in addition to this, the West Stand is sponsored by Estate.com, the South Stand is sponsored by Polypipe and is associated with the Doncaster ultras, and the North Stand is sponsored by Corsan.

Tickets to Watch Doncaster Rovers at Keepmoat Stadium

Glasgow Rangers: Fans baulk at Lille’s reported £13m offer for Alfredo Morelos

Plenty of Glasgow Rangers fans were not impressed with reports that Lille offered £13m plus bonuses for Alfredo Morelos.

Jordan Campbell reported for The Athletic that the above offer from the Ligue 1 club was turned down by the ‘Gers, with no currently active discussions between the two sides. He also shared a link to the piece on his Twitter profile @JordanC1107.

He added that the 24-year-old is keen on a move to France and has told Lille that he wants a move there this summer. Sky Sports claimed that he had even agreed personal terms with the Ligue 1 outfit.

Morelos, who cost the ‘Gers only £1.08m when he joined from HJK Helsinki three years ago (as per TransferMarkt), has scored 77 goals in 137 matches at Ibrox, including 29 last season in a prolific campaign for the Colombian. Fourteen of those goals came in the Light Blues’s Europa League run, which is a record tally in any UEFA cup competition before Christmas.

These ‘Gers fans took to Twitter to voice their unhappiness with Lille’s reported £13m offer for the striker:

‘Gers fans, what price would you deem acceptable to justify selling Morelos? Join in the discussion by commenting below!

Sunderland: Shrewsbury Town no longer keen on Will Grigg

Sunderland’s League One rivals Shrewsbury Town are no longer interested in making a move for striker Will Grigg.

After moving to the Stadium of Light in January 2019, the former Wigan Athletic striker has had the spotlight firmly on him, seeing his move much documented via Netflix series Sunderland Til I Die.

Featuring regularly for the Black Cats through the 2019/2020 season, Grigg’s form took a nosedive, with just one goal and one assist to his name last term.

Reports claimed earlier this summer that Sunderland were willing to listen to offers for Grigg, who is valued at £1.08m by Transfermarkt, and Shrewsbury Town were reportedly keen.

The Northern Echo, however, have now said that Shrewsbury boss Sam Ricketts is now looking elsewhere to improve his attacking options, having seemingly given up on trying to land Grigg.

The report added that Sunderland officials have received a number of inquiries about the Northern Ireland international but are yet to have a bid presented to them.

Sunderland manager Parkinson will seek to address his attacking options this summer and it remains to be seen if Grigg will stay at the club for next season.

Grigg’s future at the Stadium of Light remains in doubt and it seems highly doubtful if he is the right man to take the club forward and push for an automatic promotion place, given his horrendous fortunes in front of goal in recent months.

If the striker remains with the Wearside club, a drastic change in form will be needed to appease those fans who may have doubts over the current squad.

Do you think Grigg will remain at Sunderland next season? Let us know your views in the comments section below…

Spurs target Sergio Reguilon delivered a masterclass for Spain

After an enjoying an impressive season with Sevilla, it’s been no surprise to see Sergio Reguilon being linked with a big-money in this summer transfer window.

The Real Madrid ace spent the 2019/2020 campaign on loan in Seville, being a part of the side that went on to knock out Manchester United on their way to another Europa League triumph.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that the Red Devils, and Tottenham, are both interested in signing him on a permanent basis, and if Jose Mourinho was watching Reguilon during Spain’s clash with Ukraine on Sunday, then he would have been very impressed.

Is it Mido or Pedro Mendes? This Spurs quiz will separate the loyal from the fake…

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Spain ran out 4-0 winners on the day, and whilst the likes of Sergio Ramos and Ansu Fati are surely the talk of the town for their goal-scoring performances, Reguilon enjoying a barn-storming game at left-back.

As per Whoscored, his 8.05 match rating was only behind Ramos and Fati, and when you look at some of the underlying numbers behind his performance, it’s easy to see why.

He had 100 touches of the ball, whilst his pass accuracy was at an astounding 95.7%. And as those watching the final stages of the Europa League saw, Reguilon’s impact in the final third of the pitch is huge, and he came out with his full skill-set against Ukraine.

He sent in seven crosses, provided four key passes, and had three shots himself, two of which found the target, whilst he also came up with an assist as well.

Reguilon could give Spurs a huge upgrade on Ben Davies at left-back, with the Wales international barely providing anything offensively last season for the north London side, picking up just one assist.

With Matt Doherty arriving to reinforce Mourinho’s team on the right-hand side, the priority for Daniel Levy must surely be to do the same for the opposite flank with the signing of Reguilon.

Leeds United must win the race for Chelsea sensation Conor Gallagher

Leeds United are reportedly ‘hanging on’ in the race to sign one of the Premier League’s promising youngsters and they’ll certainly want to land his signature ahead of their rivals…

What’s the word?

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, the Championship winners are chasing a loan move for young Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher but they face competition from Crystal Palace.

However, it’s claimed that the Eagles are also interested in Michy Batshuayi and they would only be able to sign one of the two players from the Blues.

Roy Hodgson’s men beat United to QPR star Eberechi Eze, a player who plays in midfield like Gallagher, so perhaps the Yorkshire giants are now leading the race for the 20-year-old.

Goalscoring midfielder

Leeds’ engine room is set to be a thoroughly competitive spot next season with Adam Forshaw set to return from a long-term injury. He’ll accompany the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich, Stuart Dallas, Jamie Shackleton and Pablo Hernandez.

Whilst a move for Udinese’s Rodrigo De Paul isn’t completely out of the question either, so on the face of it, another midfielder isn’t really necessary.

But Gallagher would thrive under the stewardship of Marcelo Bielsa and he’d add something quite different in the fact that he scores goals – Bamford was clear with 16 last season with the next best coming from the veteran Spaniard with nine, and he’s not going to be playing every single week.

During loan spells in the Championship with both Charlton and Swansea last season, the 20-year-old provided six goals and 11 assists whilst averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.7 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

He put in a pretty solid performance against Leeds in September, keeping Helder Costa quiet on the right flank. The winger won just four duels while the Chelsea loanee notched double that along with four tackles too, as per SofaScore.

Sky Sports pundit Keith Andrews likened him to both Lee Bowyer and Frank Lampard in playing style, claiming “What we are seeing in glimpses from Gallagher, he has to be given the licence to get forward and he times his run into the box so well. When he gets in there, he’s got that composure in front of goal. But for me, he’s a classic No 8; he has an unbelievable energy, he does the ugly side of the game, but you have to let him off the leash and let him get forward.”

He seems a perfect fit for Bielsa and everything must be done to secure him on loan this season, he could save millions in comparison to De Paul.

Leeds have interest in Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi

Leeds United have brought in no fewer than three new signings this transfer window and they aren’t finished just yet…

What’s the word?

According to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, the Yorkshiremen are interested in Atalanta playmaker Ruslan Malinovskyi as talks over a deal for Udinese’s Rodrigo De Paul appear to be going ‘nowhere.’

This comes just a few days after the Telegraph first reported the news, claiming the Ukraine international would be a cheaper option at just £20m.

It’s also suggested that Marcelo Bielsa is looking for competition to Pablo Hernandez, who will turn 36 before the end of the current campaign.

Saiz-like playmaker?

Well, the Argentine mastermind had a ready-made successor lying in wait before he sold him on in Samuel Saiz and with a move for De Paul stalling, Malinovskyi could make a ton of sense.

Atalanta stunned many last season with impressive displays in both Serie A and the Champions League and the 27-year-old attacking midfielder played a crucial role in that.

Per WhoScored, he provided nine goals and four assists whilst averaging 2.3 shots, 1.4 dribbles and 1.4 key passes per game – in fact nearly three of his passes each match led to a shot amongst this goal-hungry Atalanta side.

His teammate Robin Gosens claims he’s a player that “can make the difference” when he wants whilst former United defender Tony Dorigo believes the Ukrainian is “one heck of a player.”

In the past, Malinovskyi has made it clear that he’d like to one day play in the Premier League, so maybe a swoop for him could work in Leeds’ favour.

One of his biggest assets is his pass-making ability and without Hernandez, the Whites lack the ability to unlock the opposition’s defence – his 82.5% passing accuracy provides some encouragement.

Saiz’s first season at Elland Road saw him reap the rewards, providing five goals and seven assists whilst averaging 2.4 dribbles and 1.9 key passes each game, via WhoScored.

Malinovskyi is in a very similar mould, so it’s no wonder Bielsa is keen.

Everton must secure EFL transfers for Ancelotti outcasts Besic and Lossl

Everton’s failure to offload Muhamed Besic and Jonas Lossl before Monday’s international transfer Deadline Day has left the Goodison Park outfit in desperate need of finding EFL suitors for the Carlo Ancelotti outcasts.

What’s the word?

According to the Liverpool Echo, Besic is striving to secure a late transfer to a Championship side before the domestic market between Premier League and EFL clubs closes at 17:00 on October 16.

Besic is in the final year of his £30,000-per-week contract and saw a potential move to Scottish Premiership giants Rangers collapse, leaving the Bosnia and Herzegovina international in need of another move that may re-start his career.

Ancelotti has had no use for Besic since the midfielder returned to Merseyside from a challenging loan spell with Sheffield United last term, for whom he played just 605 minutes for across 13 appearances in all competitions.

Besic will be allowed to continue training with the Everton first-team until a move away is secured, but risks being frozen out and omitted from the Blues’ 25-man Premier League squad if a transfer is not finalised in the coming week.

Lossl must follow Besic out

Like Besic, Lossl must also be considering his future with Everton despite no suggestion that the Danish shot-stopper is actively pushing for a transfer after reports earlier in the summer stated he would remain at Goodison Park to challenge Jordan Pickford for minutes.

That role has since been taken by Robin Olsen after the Swede completed a Deadline Day loan move from AS Roma, effectively making Lossl surplus to requirements despite never making a competitive appearance for Everton.

Ancelotti even saw fit to name 20-year-old prospect Joao Virginia on the bench for Everton’s first two Premier League games of the season, who will also not count as one of the Blues’ 25 registered players when the Merseyside club announces its squad for the season, unlike £28k-p/w Lossl.

With a squad brimming over the limit, Everton will have crucial decisions to make on who fails to make the 25-man list and Lossl and Besic are prime candidates for the chop if transfers are not secured in time.

AND in other news, a Premier League icon’s support of Everton’s £20m capture will come as good news for Carlo Ancelotti.

Leeds should focus on developing Davis rather than wasting time on Alioski

Ezgjan Alioski is in talks for a new Leeds contract, according to Football Insider.

The Macedonian started his second league game of the season against Aston Villa on Friday as Leeds had to rejig their backline in order to deal with a litany of injury problems, and while Alioski didn’t do much wrong against the Villans, there was another player on the bench that we’d rather have seen playing at left-back.

Of course, we’re talking about Leif Davis.

Davis has been touted as a future star at Leeds for some time now with Bielsa reportedly a big fan of the 19-year-old, but if he is going to fulfil his potential, he needs to get some more game time.

Alioski seems to have nailed down the backup left-back spot at the moment, but we can’t help but feel that this situation needs to change in the near future.

We all know what Alioski is about, he’s a high-energy player who will put everything on the line for the team, but he’s nothing special, with Noel Whelan recently describing him as “ineffective”, and it’s hard to make a case that he’s the long-term solution at left-back.

Stuart Dallas is clearly the man to start there week in, week out, but when he is unavailable, or having to play in another role, it should be Davis getting a chance. Even more so after the departure of Barry Douglas.

The young left-back will only improve with more experience while Alioski is already close to his peak and he isn’t likely to rip up any trees in the Premier League anytime soon.

Davis, on the other hand, has the dynamism to be an exciting attacking modern full-back, he’s previously been compared to Gareth Bale, and the fact that Liverpool were scouting him last year is an absolute testament to how highly he is rated.

United need to stop wasting time with Alioski at left-back and fast-track Davis to a more key role in the squad.

AND in other news, Leeds should regret not signing £80M monster back in 2014…

Arkadiusz Milik convinced of Napoli exit amid renewed Everton transfer interest

SSC Napoli have reportedly laid the red carpet for Everton to sign Arkadiusz Milik in January, with the Polish striker convinced he will leave the Serie A side.

What’s the word?

According to Arena Napoli, Milik is convinced that he will leave the San Paolo Stadium in the upcoming winter market in order not to miss out on featuring in the postponed UEFA European tournament.

Everton are seen as one potential suitor who may be willing to purchase Milik come the New Year, with manager Carlo Ancelotti known to have great esteem for the 26-year-old and retains an interest in his availability after links in the summer.

Tottenham Hotspur are also thought to be on the scene following AS Roma and Juventus withdrawing their interest, despite Milik not featuring in any competition so far this season and scoring the last of his 48 career Napoli goals in a 2-1 Serie A win over Udinese Calcio in July.

Napoli are no longer expected to demand close to €25million (£22.6m) to release Milik in January, with President Aurelio de Laurentiis open to a €15m (£13.5m) deal featuring €5m (£4.5m) in add-ons that will be activated through appearances and goals.

Napoli believe the lower figure still represents an important capital gain for a player deemed surplus to requirements by Gennaro Gattuso, and would use the funds raised to strengthen the Italian’s squad with Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri.

Will Everton sign Milik?

While Ancelotti’s admiration of Milik’s talents was well documented during the Italian tactician’s time in charge of Napoli, it would be unlikely that he will strive to secure a reunion with the striker at Everton despite the reports of interest.

Former Italy World Cup winner Francesco Graziani told Radio Kiss Kiss via Sport Witness that Ancelotti held a special appreciation of Milik, noting: “Ancelotti made a confession on Milik. He told me he is the footballer every coach wants to have.”

And yet Ancelotti had the potential of welcoming Milik to Goodison Park this summer, but journalist Ciro Venerato told Radio Kiss Kiss via quotes by Tutto Napoli: “I think [Milik] aspired to join Everton, PSG or Atletico Madrid.

“Everton, however, wanted a counter-attacker and not one with the characteristics of Milik. Ancelotti had communicated this to a member of the Polish‘s entourage.”

The Blues have since begun the season comfortably on the back of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s form, with the striker boasting eight goals in seven Premier League games, and may not wish to pursue a centre-forward of Milik’s calibre to offer depth behind the England international.

AND in other news, Everton missed the boat with an “amazing” talent who could have filled the void of a club legend.
