Apparently, something went wrong with the stadium speaker, and the baseball was delayed for nearly a minute as everyone was forced to sit through the aggrevating of angry electronics. Living in the future is terrible.

2. Yankees’ Jasson Dominguez Hits RBI Double, His Own Helmet Off

It was the type of at-bat that kids dream of growing up.

With the New York Yankees trailing the Kansas City Royals 2–1, two outs, and the bases loaded, outfielder Jasson Dominguez stepped up to the plate and let out a mighty swing.

Sure, he slammed himself so hard in the back of the head with his own bat that he knocked his own contact lenses out, but he also cleared the bases with an unlikely double, giving the Yankees a 4–2 lead that would hold for the rest of the game.

It’s not often you see a highlight and a lowlight in the same swing.

3. Alburquerque Isotopes Get Three Runs Out of Bases-Loaded Walk

No look at the wild world of professional baseball would be complete without a dip into the minor leagues.

The Albuquerque Isotopes, the Colorado Rockies Triple-A affiliate, pulled off a stunning bit of base-running, turning a bases-loaded walk into three runs. After the first run walked home, the runner that had advanced to third caught his opponent sleeping and stole home. That led to a bad throw to third base to try and catch another advancing runner, who was then also able to make it home on an error.

The ultimate result? Pitcher Omar Cruz left the game with an unblemished 0.00 ERA, despite three runs getting across home thanks to one compounding mistake. That’s why they call it the beautiful game.

4. Cardinals' Erick Fedde Unlocks the Matrix

Not the strangest play you’ll see, but one heckuva highlight here. When Astros right fielder Cam Smith sent an absolute bullet right back at Fedde on the mound, the Cardinals pitcher flashed his glove and came out with an unreal grab.

He capped off the impressive bit of defense by throwing to first base to complete the double play. While the Astros would ultimately win the game 2–0, Fedde can take comfort in the fact that his defense probably saved him from a pretty big bruise.

5. Detroit Tigers Go Off the Back for an Out

Closing out our grab bag is the Detroit Tigers. With the Milwaukee Brewers at the plate and threatening to extend their lead in the seventh inning, first baseman Spencer Torkelson fielded a ground ball and threw to second base.

While that throw hit Brewers second baseman Brian Turang in the back, the Tigers stayed with the play, with shortstop Trey Sweeney tracking the ball off of the back bounce and making the catch before Turang slid into the bag.

Folks, that’s baseball.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim said he avoids using social media in order to protect himself after he was revealed to be the top target of online abuse in English football. An investigation by the BBC found that Amorim received more abuse than any other figure in the game during the weekend of United's 2-2 draw with Tottenham in November, followed by Liverpool manager Arne Slot.

The BBC investigation showed that Amorim received more than 160 online messages described as 'extremely abusive' on the weekend of November 8-9, bearing the brunt of some 2000 messages flagged by data science company Signify. They included death threats and hate speech, breaking the rules of the platforms they were posted on including X, Instagram and TikTok.

Amorim told a press conference: "First of all, nowadays it is normal in any profession, when you are exposed, like we are exposed, it's harder, but I don't read it. I agree with a lot of things that you guys say. But it is a way of me being healthy because it's enough. When we lose, when we draw, I know that we play bad, my feeling as a coach is enough. Amorim: Extra money from social media promotion 'not worth it'

Amorim has no official account on X and the official Instagram page set up in his name has had no updates since 2020. He said he is missing out on extra income from social media endorsements and promotions but said it was a price worth paying to not have to witness all the abuse.

He added: "Of course, I lose money in sponsors, in Instagram. I could earn a lot of money. But for me, the quality of life, the protection of my family the way I can live a normal life – because I guarantee you, I live a normal life – it is not worth it. Some more dollars or pounds is not worth it. So I protect myself, and no one can be tougher than me when we lose, and when we lose when we don't play well. So that is the only way. But it's normal nowadays. Is really normal to have that abuse. So for me it's the only way to survive in this world."

Amorim revealed that two players were fresh injury doubts ahead of Thursday's game against West Ham, but would not reveal who they were. However, he confirmed that Matheus Cunha is back after missing the last two games with a knock sustained in training, while Benjamin Sesko and Harry Maguire are still out.

"We have two doubts, I will not tell you today because it will tell you the way we are going to approach, but the rest of the squad is good," said the coach.

West Ham are 17th in the Premier League and they will be without playmaker Lucas Paqueta after he was sent off for arguing with the referee in their last outing against Liverpool. The game will see Amorim come up against compatriot and new Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo, whose Nottingham Forest side beat United on two occasions last season.

"I had no doubts that he would have success, no matter what the club," Amorim said of Nuno. "He is really experienced. He knows how to work with different with different squads. By now, you've probably heard about everything the Los Angeles Dodgers do to add talent at all costs, ballooning their opening day payroll this season to $321 million in present-day dollars, the second-most in MLB (first: Mets). Off a World Series win in 2024, the Dodgers want to keep winning, and they added and re-signed players for a total of $450 million this winter after a $1 billion offseason last year. Luxury tax will push that cost for ownership even higher.

But Los Angeles is also looking for ways to spend outside of payroll to position the team for improved performance. One tactic highlighted in a recent article was the travel itinerary, which now includes a second chartered plane for the Dodgers. One plane takes players, the other takes manager Dave Roberts, his staff, and other team personnel.

That shift has allowed players to get to road cities earlier so they have a true day to themselves instead of spending their off day traveling, something Dodgers players have lauded as hugely helpful for recovery. Additionally, roomier planes have made for a more comfortable travel experience, a luxury particularly important for long bicoastal trips.

The dollar amount of a second plane is easy to imagine as costly, but incidental costs rack up as well: Not only do they need hotel rooms for an additional night in those day-early cases, but also the Dodgers senior director of travel Scott Akasaki has had to hire additional staff to help manage the complex logistics of the operation, according to the LA Times' reporting.

Another possible benefit for the Dodgers? These dollars aren't as punitive as player payroll dollars because they fall outside of the team's payroll, which means they aren't subject to the luxury tax. Dollar for dollar, they're "cheaper" ways to spend than adding more talent at this point.

The Dodgers clearly understand that winning takes everything and everyone, even your travel planning staff.
