Newcastle eyeing Evan Ndicka

An update has emerged on Newcastle United’s interest in Evan Ndicka heading into the summer transfer window…

What’s the talk?

According to The Sun, the Magpies are looking at the Frankfurt defender as a possible alternative to Sven Botman, with Dan Ashworth plotting a bid for the gem if they fail to land the Lille enforcer.

The report claims that the Frenchman, who is valued at £20m, would come in as competition for Dan Burn on the left side of the centre-back partnership.

Huge Burn upgrade

If Ashworth can get a deal for the machine over the line then he will be signing a huge upgrade on the ex-Brighton man for Eddie Howe to work with.

Ndicka is coming off the back of an excellent season in the Bundesliga and would arrive as a quality player with the potential to get better in the future.

Former Frankfurt player Alexander Schur claimedthe Frenchman “shows no nerves” and his former boss Adi Hutter once heaped praise on him, saying: “I honestly have to say that I was surprised by his development. Evan has developed phenomenally. He’s very attentive in the analysis of his own game. He’s very modest and always takes a lot on board.”

In the German top-flight, he averaged a sublime SofaScore rating of 7.12. He also won 6.2 duels and made 3.4 tackles and interceptions per game for Frankfurt as he showcased his defensive quality week-in-week-out with strong performances.

Burn, meanwhile, averaged a score of 6.98 in the Premier League. The giant centre-back won 5.0 duels and made 2.8 tackles and interceptions per game, suggesting that Ndicka performs to a higher standard on a regular basis and is more active in his defensive actions.

The Frankfurt man also provides a threat in possession. He ended the league campaign with four goals and four assists, whilst completing 84% of his passes, as he made himself a force in the opposition’s box as well as his own.

Whereas, Burn managed one goal and one assist, completing 80% of his passes, for Brighton and Newcastle combined.

At the age of 22, he is also eight years younger than the Englishman and this means that he has more scope for development moving forwards. He is in the early stages of his career, rather than heading towards the end of it, and this means that he is a player Howe can work with over the course of a number of years – helping him to fulfil his potential.

In conclusion, Ndicka can offer Newcastle more than Burn defensively, in the final third, and in the future and that is why he would be a huge upgrade on the 30-year-old.

AND in other players, Ashworth “looking” at Newcastle deal for “clever” £75m gem, he can be Howe’s own Salah…

Rangers keen on Emmanuel Longelo

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly plotting a swoop to bring a new defender to Ibrox in the upcoming transfer window…

What’s the talk?

According to The Sun, Rangers are one of a number of clubs keen on a deal to sign left-back Emmanuel Longelo ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The report claims that he has not been deemed good enough to play in the Premier League for West Ham at this point in his career, with a host of teams now ready to offer him an escape from the London Stadium.

Calvin Bassey 2.0

Signing a young left-back from a Premier League club… sounds rather familiar to Rangers supporters.

Steven Gerrard brought Bassey in from Leicester after he failed to make a breakthrough at the King Power and he has been a relevation in Glasgow.

He enjoyed an excellent campaign in the season just gone and is now being linked with transfers at a potential price of £25m, with the price tag illustrating how impressive his performances were.

In Longelo, Gio van Bronckhorst can now find the next Bassey by unearthing another talent from a Premier League side.

The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas previously claimed that he has “serious potential” and he showed glimpses of that in his performances for the Hammers in 2021/22.

David Moyes gave him the chance to catch the eye in the Europa League against Dinamo Zagreb in December 2021. His display was dubbed “very impressive” by journalist Jack Rosser as he made two tackles, one interception and three clearances whilst playing at left-back.

He also impressed whilst playing in the Football League Trophy for the club’s U23 side. Longelo averaged a superb SofaScore rating of 7.00 across games against Gillingham, Ipswich and Colchester – three League One outfits.

In those games, the 21-year-old created two chances per game as he showed that he can make an impact in the final third by bursting forward down the flank. He also made 2.4 tackles and interceptions per match as he won 54% of his duels, proving that he can contribute at both ends of the pitch.

Longelo, however, has not been able to enjoy an extended run of games at senior level and that is why Rangers can offer him. Bassey thrived off playing week-in-week-out in 2021/22 – as shown by his current valuation – and the Hammers gem can use that as inspiration to come to Ibrox and follow in his footsteps.

Liverpool given green light to sign Gavi

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Gavi during the summer transfer window, and a fresh new update has emerged on the youngster’s future amid contract negotiations with his current club Barcelona.

What’s the latest?

According to reports in Spain, while it was believed that a deal was close to being signed, there are still many differences to be ironed out between the player and the club.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

As per the report, Gavi and Barcelona were reported to be almost completely in agreement on extending his contract and securing his future with the La Liga giants, but this is now not thought to be true.

It is suggested that Barcelona do not believe Gavi is a fully-fledged footballer as of yet, although the young midfielder believes he has earned enough experience to be paid on a par with his more senior team-mates at the club.

FSG must act now

With the news that Barcelona are not as close as anticipated to securing a deal for Gavi to remain at the club, FSG must act now and take their opportunity to hijack the deal and offer the youngster a future at Anfield.

Liverpool have a relatively ageing squad in terms of their midfield options, with Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson and James Milner all now well into their 30s. Therefore,  injecting some youth into their team could be a good step forward for the Reds as they continue their pursuit for dominance and trophies on all fronts.

Gavi has been impressing over the last season, with Jamie Redknapp lauding praise on the 17-year-old, who he called “talented” and a “phenomenon” in an interview on Sky Sports

The former Liverpool midfielder gushed (via SPORT): “I want to see Gavi’s birth certificate… You can’t be that good at 17! He is a phenomenon, very talented. I’m amazed, I loved watching him play, it’s a pleasure to see him. Gavi is going to be a superstar if he continues on this path. He has it all, I loved watching him play tonight.”

The Spanish talent – who has a €100m (£85.6m) release clause – scored two goals, delivered five assists and created eight big chances during the 2021/22 season, making 1.1 tackles and winning 5.6 duels per game. Also, he was successful with the majority of his dribbles (62%) in his 34 La Liga appearances, suggesting that his potential has no ceiling.

With that being said, FSG must not pass up on their opportunity to turn Gavi’s head with an attractive offer which could tempt him away from securing his future with Barcelona this summer, instead joining Jurgen Klopp’s talented squad in their pursuit for a second Premier League title and beyond.

Liverpool to offer African hero new deal

Liverpool will prioritise penning Naby Keita to a new deal this summer and the links to Gini Wijnaldum are ‘fake’, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Keita enjoys best season

The 27-year-old hasn’t always hit the heights expected of him when he joined the Reds in 2018 but he enjoyed a strong 2021/22 campaign.

Keita made 40 appearances overall for Liverpool as they battled for a quadruple, proving to be an effective part of Jurgen Klopp’s well-drilled midfield after years of struggling with injuries.

The Guinean is out of contract at Anfield next summer as it stands, but a positive update has emerged regarding his future.

The Latest: Romano drops midfield update

Taking to Twitter, Romano confirmed that Liverpool are not interested in bringing back Wijnaldum on loan, focusing instead extending Keita’s stay at the club:

“Liverpool are not in talks to sign Gini Wijnaldum from Paris Saint-Germain as of today. Rumours are described as ‘fake’ by sources. LFC Board priority will be to extend Naby Keita’s contract, talks to take place soon.”

The Verdict: Right decision by Reds

While Keita remains a divisive figure among the Liverpool fanbase, it makes complete sense to offer him a new deal, with last season proof of what he can offer.

The midfielder is relentless in his pressing and general off-the-ball work, averaging two tackles per game in Premier League in 2021/22 – no Reds regular managed more – and he also stayed largely injury-free.

With other Liverpool midfielders now in their 30s, this really could be the time for Keita to go up another level and cement himself as a genuine starter almost every week.

Romano drops significant Saliba update

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that William Saliba is set to stay at Arsenal and be part of the first-team squad next season.

The Lowdown: On the periphery

The Frenchman first arrived in the Premier League when he joined the Gunners from Saint-Etienne in 2019, but is yet to make a senior appearance at the Emirates, having been sent out on loan three times since putting pen to paper in north London.

This has caused plenty of speculation in recent times, linking the 21-year-old with a move away from the capital, but it sounds like Arteta might have other ideas when it comes to planning the next stage of his career.

The Latest: Romano drops Saliba update

Taking to Twitter, Romano confirmed that Arsenal want to retain Saliba and are even keen on offering him fresh terms. He wrote:

“William Saliba situation. Rumours on loan move are wide of mark, Arsenal board and Mikel Arteta both count on Saliba as part of the team for next season.

“Been told situation could only change in case of crazy bid. Arsenal trust him – keen on discussing a new contract.”

The Verdict: Marseille success

Having initially spent £27m on signing Saliba in the first place, it would have been a shame for Arsenal to let him permanently go without giving him a chance to prove himself, so it’s nice to see that Arteta views him as part of his long-term plan.

The defender was a revelation at Marseille last season, averaging an incredible 93.1% pass success rate in Ligue 1, with his performances earning him a call up to Deschamps’ international squad.

With Gabriel and Ben White very much a comfortable pairing at the back, it’ll be interesting to see what the Gunners boss does with Saliba, dubbed ‘fast and powerful’ by Mattéo Guendouzi, but he will now at least have the opportunity to make an impression during pre-season.

Everton in talks to sign Harry Winks

Everton have been heavily linked with a move for Harry Winks this summer, and a reliable journalist has now given an update on the club’s progress in signing the player.

What’s the latest?

In a Q&A with football.london, Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold gave an update on the Toffees’ pursuit of the 26-year-old.

In response to a question about the player’s future at the north London club, the reporter claimed: “There doesn’t seem to be anything close with outgoings at the moment, although of course, that can change the moment someone meets Spurs’ valuation. Everton are still in talks over Harry Winks.”

Lampard’s very own Jorginho

Frank Lampard will now be getting desperate to start signing some players to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League season next month, and signing Winks has been reportedly of much interest to the Everton manager.

The 26-year-old has found himself out of favour under Antonio Conte and has not played a full 90 minutes since February. The player will surely be keen to pick up more consistent game-time elsewhere, even though he is a boyhood Spurs fan who came through the academy and broke into the first team.

Despite Winks’ lack of minutes on the pitch, former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino always had high praise for the £20m-valued midfielder and even claimed that he was like “Xavi and Iniesta” in the past.

Pochettino stated in 2018 (via Daily Mail): “Harry has the profile of the perfect midfield player. His characteristics are perfect… When we talk about midfielders like Xavi and Iniesta, he’s like this type of player.”

In fact, Lampard could land his very own Jorginho by signing Winks this summer, as the Chelsea midfielder was the most comparable player to Winks last season, according to FBRef.

Despite the Italian recording more goals and assists and playing more minutes than the Spurs midfielder, Winks outperformed him in terms of shot on target percentage (33.3% to 22.2%) and posted more goal-creating actions per 90 minutes (0.39 to 0.32).

Farhad Moshiri will need to get to work to replace not only Richarlison this summer, as he has effectively sealed his move to Spurs, but also to fill in the gaps in midfield, with loanee Donny Van de Beek returning to Manchester United and Fabian Delph now out of contract.

As a result, the signing of Winks would be a major coup for Everton as they attempt to strengthen and add depth to their squad to ensure that they can compete in the Premier League next season.

Leeds: Di Marzio drops De Ketelaere update

Leeds United have been dealt a blow in their bid to bring Charles De Ketelaere to Elland Road this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Gianluca Di Marzio, who revealed in a recent post on Twitter that AC Milan have now made their first offer for the Club Brugge forward – believed to be in the region of €20m (£17m) plus add-ons.

In his tweet, the Italian journalist said: “First offer of Milan for De Ketelaere.”

However, the transfer insider went on to state in a supporting article that the Rossoneri face competition for the 21-year-old’s signature from the Whites, while further reports have also revealed both Arsenal and Lyon’s interest in the Belgium international – for whom Brugge are said to be demanding a figure of €35m (£30m) in order to part with this summer.

Supporters will be gutted

Considering just how exciting a prospect De Ketelaere undoubtedly is, in addition to it being reported that the versatile attacking midfielder is one of Victor Orta’s priority targets in the summer transfer window, Di Marzio’s claim that Milan have now made a move for the youngster, coupled with the new interest of Arsenal and Lyon, is sure to have left the Elland Road faithful gutted.

Indeed, upon making his first-team debut for Brugge back in 2019, the £27m-rated talent burst onto the European football scene, having scored 25 goals and registered 20 assists over his 120 appearances for the Jupiler Pro League side – averaging a direct goal involvement every 190 minutes of football played.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

The £17k-per-week versatile forward – who can operate from almost any position in midfield and attack – particularly caught the eye last season, bagging 18 goals and providing ten assists over 49 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League, the Champions League, the Beker van Belgie and the Belgian Supercup.

These returns have seen De Ketelaere receive a significant amount of praise, with De Krant van West-Vlaanderen journalist Frans Buyse even going as far as to compare the 21-year-old to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.

In an interview with BBC Sport last October, Buyse said: “Charles’ best position is number 10, but experienced star Hans Vanaken plays there, so he had been moved around, used in attack, on the wing and even at left-back.

“Lately, he started to enjoy life in the penalty area, but his biggest strength is to have a lot of the ball in central midfield.

“De Ketelaere’s style is reminiscent of De Bruyne. He is intelligent, and possesses great vision and a superb passing range. His dribbling is similar to De Bruyne’s too. Eventually, he should take his place for Belgium.”

As such, with it being abundantly clear just how promising an attacker the Brugge starlet is, should Leeds miss out on a move for the eight-cap international, it would undoubtedly come as a gutting blow to the Whites – leading us to believe that Orta simply must do all he can to land the forward ahead of Milan, Arsenal and Lyon this summer.

Southampton set to lose Tyler Dibling

Southampton sensation Tyler Dibling could leave St. Mary’s this summer, according to Football Insider, with Newcastle United and Chelsea circling for his signature.

The Lowdown: Dibling’s progression

The 16-year-old worked his way up through the academy ranks on the south coast and has created a name for himself, becoming one of the most highly-rated young talents in England.

His impressive performances across the Saints’ various youth sides last season led him to earn a place on the bench with the senior first-team for their Premier League fixture against Brentford back in May, but this attention has come with eyes elsewhere too, with an exit now looking possible.

The Latest: Competition for Dibling

According to Football Insider, Newcastle and Chelsea are ‘battling it out’ to sign Dibling, with the top-flight duo both ‘registering their interest’ in the ‘sensation’, who they view as a ‘star in the making’.

The source reveals that the Magpies have been ‘keeping tabs’ on the maestro ever since he netted a hat-trick of stunning goals against them in Premier League 2 in April.

It’s stated that the Blues, meanwhile, regard the prospect as a ‘huge talent’ who they feel would be an ‘ideal fit’ for their club as they look to freshen their youth system.

The Verdict: Huge loss

If Southampton were to lose Dibling, it would be a real hammer blow considering he seemingly has the potential to go on and become a regular in Hasenhuttl’s starting XI in years to come.

Last season, the youngster, who was once hailed one of the academy’s ‘shining’ stars by the Austrian boss himself, made 13 goal contributions in just 22 appearances across all of the Saints’ youth competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

Dibling may feel that making the move to perennial trophy-challengers Chelsea or newly-rich Newcastle is the right next step to take in his career though, which could make it extremely difficult for Southampton to stand in his way.

Leon Bailey can fire Aston Villa to success

Leon Bailey is primed for a big season at Aston Villa this season.

The 24-year-old winger has already given supporters some fighting talk, posting a highlight reel to Instagram, alongside a caption that said (via Birmingham Mail):

“Talk the same talk you did last season. New season incoming, I’m coming for everything they said I couldn’t achieve, mark my words,” he warned the rest of the Premier League.

Bailey completed 90 minutes in the Premier League only three times and was limited to just 18 appearances in total. He missed the final five matches of last season with an ankle issue, though he returned to goalscoring form for Jamaica in the subsequent international break.

In fact, manager Steven Gerrard has only been able to call upon the former Bayer Leverkusen star 12 times, averaging only 38.5 minutes per appearance.

There’s a reason that the Villa hierarchy splashed around £30m on Bailey’s signature. He was in fine form in Germany, where he delivered a whopping 15 goals and 11 assists from 40 matches during his final campaign at the BayArena.

The Jamaican international needs to keep fit and then he can be something of a secret threat for Gerrard, given that he has hardly seen the pitch under the former Rangers boss.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has backed the winger to set the ground alight this campaign, suggesting that he would be “like a new signing” to GIVEMESPORT:

“Fitness issues prevented Villa fans from seeing the best of him, but I’m sure he will be hungry to prove a point this season and can show he can be a top performer for Aston Villa because he’s definitely got it in him, and he could almost be like a new signing for Villa if he goes and hits the ground running.”

Bailey’s best position is on the right flank, perhaps where Villa have been their weakest in recent seasons, so he should have a clear run at making that position his own – he certainly needs to deliver this campaign after the sizeable investment in his signature.

During his time in Germany, the winger was likened to ex-Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben and lauded as “exceptional” and “very rare” by Ronald de Boer

So it could be time to forget about Philippe Coutinho and his playmaking impact this season, the unknown surrounding Bailey could work to Villa’s advantage as Gerrard looks to improve on their 14th place finish.

Bailey can, and is likely to, play a major role as the Midlands outfit look to rise up the Premier League standings.

Manchester United: Fabrizio Romano makes Frenkie de Jong claim

Manchester United and Barcelona are working hard to convince midfielder Frenkie de Jong to complete his move to Old Trafford, GiveMeSport report.

The Lowdown: Three in

Manchester United officials have got the ball rolling when it comes to additions ahead of Erik ten Hag’s first season in charge, with three signings made.

Left-back Tyrell Malacia was the first through the door, with free agent Christian Eriksen also choosing United as his next club. United then spent over £50m on defender Lisandro Martinez from Ajax, and fellow countryman De Jong could be the fourth arrival, providing he changes his mind over a reunion with Ten Hag.

The Latest: Romano’s comments

Talking to GiveMeSport, Romano stated that an ‘agreement’ is still in place between United and Barcelona for De Jong, but the Red Devils have not yet persuaded the midfielder to sign Old Trafford terms.

“Let’s see if Manchester United and Barcelona, together, will be able to change his mind or not.

“But, as of now, it is exactly the same. There is an agreement in place between the clubs.”

The Verdict: Deadline needed?

United could do with another marquee addition who can play as a holding or central midfielder, an area the club are yet to bolster. De Jong, labelled as a ‘genius’ by Xavi Hernandez, would fit the bill, however, he’s been on the club’s radar since Ten Hag was appointed at the end of April.

United chiefs have had a number of hurdles to clear in their pursuit of the midfielder, so it could be wise for them to table a ‘take it or leave it’ offer to De Jong over the coming days.

Should he continue to snub a move, they may be wise to move on to alternative targets, especially with the new season fast approaching.
