Bumrah was asked if he harboured any captaincy ambitions.”If given an opportunity, it will be an honour,” he said. “I don’t think any player would say no and I am no different. Be it a leadership group or any responsibility, I always look to contribute to the best of my abilities. I look at this situation in the same manner, not to take any extra pressure that I would have to be over-cautious. Yes, taking responsibility, talking to a lot of players, trying to help them out in the best way possible has always been my approach and will be my approach going forward in any situation that comes.”As the vice-captain for the series, Bumrah has not been assigned any specific responsibility but he agreed his role in the side is changing.”When I was new, I used to ask a lot of questions to seniors. Now I am in a transition phase and when youngsters ask me something, I try to share my experience with them. Sometimes their inputs can help me as well. Essex have been charged by the ECB with bringing the game into disrepute over the failure to properly investigate an alleged racist comment made by the club’s former chairman, John Faragher, in 2017.Faragher resigned from his position in November, despite denying the claim made against him. It was reported by the that he had used the phrase “n***** in the woodpile” during a committee meeting.Essex have now been charged in relation to ECB directive 3.3, which states: “No participant may conduct themself in a manner or do any act or omission at any time which may be prejudicial to the interests of cricket or which may bring the ECB, the game of cricket or any cricketer or group of cricketers into disrepute.”The case will be heard by the Cricket Discipline Commission, with the ECB looking to make a stance on discrimination within the game in the wake of the Azeem Rafiq racism scandal at Yorkshire, and subsequent criticism by the government.In a statement, Essex said: “The club takes this matter extremely seriously. We have co-operated fully with the ECB’s investigations since they commenced last year and will continue to do so as the process moves to this next stage.”After Faragher’s departure, Essex’s incoming chief executive, John Stephenson, said the club had a “zero-tolerance policy towards racism”. A “powerful” Sunderland player will not only miss the weekend clash with Swansea City but could also be out for the next 13 matches, as confirmed by manager Regis Le Bris.

The Black Cats’ form has stalled a little in recent weeks, with only one win in their last six Championship matches, following such a blistering start to the season.

Le Bris’ fourth-place Sunderland side are back in league action on Saturday afternoon, making the trip to a Swansea team who are currently sitting ninth in the table. It promises to be another test of their promotion credentials, with further dropped points casting doubt over their hopes of reaching the Premier League automatically this season.

Kristjaan Speakman has spoken positively about the potential for January reinforcements, however, which could be needed to give the Black Cats the added quality that they crave: “We’ve just got to be really diligent in the moment, able to react and action things really quickly within the month of January. I’m really optimistic about what we can achieve.”

Injuries can have the potential to derail any team’s season, though, with Sunderland not without fitness issues this term, and now a fresh blow has emerged.

Speaking on Thursday, Le Bris confirmed that Sunderland winger Tom Watson is expected to be out injured for around two months, meaning he could miss as many as 13 games leading up to the middle of February.

This is a huge blow for Watson and Sunderland, with the 18-year-old impressing so much for such a young player, scoring twice in six Championship starts so far this season.

With Jack Clarke departing to Ipswich Town during the summer transfer window, he has really stepped up, with Le Bris heading praise on him, saying: “When you have a winger with the ability to run inside and outside and cross, it’s a gift for a coach and a team. He works well.

“The system is well designed for him. We can use him very quickly and play to his main strengths. He’s powerful, he can dribble, he can move inside and outside and he scored. He’s very strong, a very good winger in this league.”

While Watson isn’t necessarily one of the first names on Le Bris’ team sheet, he is still going to be a massive loss in the coming months, having done so well for a player so young.

وأستمر: “لقد واجهنا بالفعل أجنحةً من الطراز الرفيع، مثل أوليز وساني مع بايرن وآرسنال خلال مرحلة الدوري، نحتاج إلى تركيز كامل ولياقة بدنية كاملة إذا أردنا التسبب لهم بمشاكل”.

وأكمل: “ربما، كان بإمكاننا احتلال المركز الثاني في جميع المسابقات الثلاث، ولكن في بداية الموسم، كنا قد تعاقدنا على تصدر جدول الترتيب والتأهل إلى نصف نهائي كأس إيطاليا ودوري أبطال أوروبا، نشعر بالإرهاق، ولكن كما قلنا في بداية العام، نريد أن ننافس بكل قوة”.

وعن المنافسة على لقب الدوري الإيطالي مع نابولي بقيادة كونتي، علّق باستوني مبتسمًا: “هل تعتقد أن كونتي كان يحتفل في ساحة الكاتدرائية؟”.

وأشار: “أنا أمزح، أنا مدينٌ بالكثير لكونتي، إنه يفعل ما يجب عليه فعله، حتى في طريقة تواصله، ربما يحاول التخفي ليضعنا تحت الضغط، لكننا هادئون حيال ذلك، قوتنا تكمن في التركيز على أنفسنا، حتى مع تعرضنا للانتقادات”.

وشدد: “نريد الفوز بالسكوديتو، لكننا نعلم أن نابولي سيقاتل حتى النهاية، لذا لا يمكننا تحمّل خسارة النقاط”.

وأخيرًا، أشاد المدافع الإيطالي بمدربه، سيموني إنزاجي: “إنه حقًا واحد منا، عندما تراه ينزل إلى الملعب وهو يصرخ، ترى إشارات قوية تساعدنا، وهو يُظهر ذلك كل يوم في التدريبات أيضًا، شغفه وعزيمته مُعديان، عندما نشعر بالتعب أو الإحباط، يُلقي علينا نكتة تُخفف من حدة التوتر”.

يرى عادل عبد الرحمن لاعب الأهلي السابق، أن المدرب السويسري مارسيل كولر، لا يصلح لتدريب الفريق حاليًا، بعد الأداء غير الجيد خلال المباريات الأخيرة للمارد الأحمر.

وتشهد الفترة الحالية، انقسام بين الجماهير الحمراء حول رحيل كولر أو استمراره بعد أداء الفريق خلال المواجهات الأخيرة، آخرها التعادل مع بيراميدز في بطولة الدوري المصري بمنافسات المرحلة النهائية للمسابقة. 

وقال عادل عبد الرحمن في تصريحات عبر برنامج “ملعب أون”، على قناة “أون سبورت”: “الأهلي منذ فترة والأداء ليس جيدًا، لكن البطولات التي حصل عليها تشير إلى أنه يسير في الطريق الصحيح، لكن الارتباك وسوء الأداء في آخر مباريات للفريق، إنذار خطر من ناحية الأداء والمدير الفني”.

وأضاف: “أحيانًا تُجبر على موقف بسبب ضيق الوقت، لو كان الوقت يسمح كان من الممكن أن يتم أخذ قرار سريع برحيل مارسيل كولر، لكن في الفترة الحالية لا بد من دعمه، لأن الأهلي في نصف نهائي دوري أبطال إفريقيا ويبحث عن اللقب الثالث على التوالي ليسطر تاريخًا لم يتكرر من قبل، لذلك يجب أن نُحافظ على الثقة في المدرب، وبعد ذلك لكل حدث حديث”.

وواصل: “من وجهة نظري، كولر لا يصلح في الوقت الحالي، لكن أنت مُجبر عليه الآن، النادي الأهلي عادته أن يتعاقد مع مدرب أجنبي، وأحيانًا يتم تعيين مدرب مصري حتى يتعاقد النادي مع أجنبي، وأرى أن كولر يرحل بعد بطولة إفريقيا”.

واستكمل: “كولر لا بد أن يرحل قبل كأس العالم، حتى لو قبل كأس العالم بـ 24 ساعة، أنا من وجهة نظري أن الأهلي بحث عن مدرب جديد وهو يُتابع الفريق الآن، ويجب أن يكون معه مدربا مصريا قويا تولى تدريب أندية كثيرة”.

وبسؤاله، هل تقصد مدرب آخر غير سامي قمصان؟ أجاب: “سامي يكون الرجل الثالث، يجب أن يكون المدرب بقيمة حسام البدري أيام ما كان حسام البدري، سامي قمصان مدرب جيد، لكن لاعبي النادي الأهلي صعبين”.

وأشار: “هناك أسماء كثيرة موجودة ممكن أن تتواجد، ممكن أعد حتى 10 أسماء، منهم ربيع ياسين، ضياء السيد، أسامة عرابي، علاء ميهوب، عماد النحاس، محمد يوسف، رضا شحاتة، كل هؤلاء ممكن يعملون كرجل ثاني في الجهاز الفني للأهلي، ومستعد أن أقول أسماء أكثر، وأنا أيضًا معهم”.

واختتم: “هؤلاء يصلحون للموقف الحالي للنادي، لو أنك ستأتي بمدرب يتابع الفريق حتى تنتهي بطولة إفريقيا، لو فاز الفريق بها، يتولى تدريب الفريق المدرب الذي تعاقد معه النادي، ومعه المدرب المصري الجامد”.

ويستعد الأهلي لمواجهة مرتقبة أمام صن داونز الجنوب إفريقي، يوم السبت المقبل 19 أبريل، في إطار لقاء الذهاب لدور نصف النهائي من بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا.
