After months and months of false starts and injury setbacks, Simon Jones is one step closer to playing his first international cricket in three years after England named him in their 30-man squad for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan in September. Jones broke down during the fourth Test of the 2005 Ashes at Trent Bridge, having set England up for victory with six first-innings wickets, and has not played at the highest level since then.He had made several abortive attempts to come back to county cricket in the intervening seasons, switching from Glamorgan to Worcestershire in the process, but this year he has been bowling well for his new county and the announcement will be massively encouraging for him.”He’s made his move,” said England’s selector, Geoff Miller. “He’s moved from Glamorgan to Worcester, and he’s got himself fighting fit. He looks really good and he’s on the mend – he’s not mended yet and there’s a little while to go before we knock that squad down to 15, but from what we’ve seen – and we’ve monitored him quite stringently over the last few weeks – it’s nice to see him back.”For the time being, Jones will continue to ply his trade for Worcester, and seek to confirm the match fitness before he is truly considered for an international recall. But Miller conceded that if the wickets keep coming in county cricket, he will have to be considered for the forthcoming series against South Africa.”Of course he’s got a chance,” said Miller. “He’s not made himself unavailable for Test cricket, so if he keeps performing consistently, of course he’s got a chance. There’s the pace angle, and what he could do with the reverse swing. If he can perform like he did in the Ashes, then we’ve got something special there. It would be absolutely fantastic if he’s knocking on the door. It would be a problem we look forward to.”Samit Patel, 23, has also made the long list for an England debut after a career that also featured England Under-19 appearances. The squad also includes the Australian Darren Pattinson, who was born in England but has lived most of his life in Melbourne.Pattinson, 29, was a late starter at first-class level and in 2006-07 was a surprise call-up for Victoria when the state’s contracted fast bowlers were all injured. A steady right-arm fast bowler who concentrates on accuracy and swing rather than extreme speed, Pattinson has been a revelation in his first taste of county cricket with Nottinghamshire, where he has collected 24 first-class wickets at 22.20 and he 13 one-day wickets at 17.84. “He’s a very solid character,” said Miller. “His consistency is terrific and he’s deserved that kind of notoriety.”England, meanwhile, announced an unchanged squad for the upcoming South Africa Test series which begins with the first Test at Lord’s next week.Champions Trophy squad Tim Ambrose (wk), James Anderson, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Tim Bresnan, Stuart Broad, Michael Carberry, Paul Collingwood (capt), Alastair Cook, Andrew Flintoff, Simon Jones, Ed Joyce, Rob Key, Sajid Mahmood, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Phil Mustard, Graham Onions, Monty Panesar, Samit Patel, Darren Pattinson, Kevin Pietersen, Liam Plunkett, Matt Prior, Owais Shah, Ryan Sidebottom, Andrew Strauss, Graeme Swann, James Tredwell, Chris Tremlett, Luke Wright.Test squad Michael Vaughan (capt), Tim Ambrose (wk), James Anderson, Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Paul Collingwood, Alastair Cook, Monty Panesar, Kevin Pietersen, Ryan Sidebottom, Andrew Strauss, Chris Tremlett.

Ipswich considering Norwood sale

An update has emerged on Ipswich striker James Norwood, regarding his future at Portman Road.

What’s the talk?

According to Football League World, Ipswich are contemplating the sale of James Norwood between now and the end of the transfer window.

The report claims that Paul Cook is open to parting ways with the forward, although no specific teams are mentioned as lining up a swoop for his services at this time.

Cook doesn’t need him

Mark Ashton must sanction a sale for Norwood and ruthlessly axe him from the Ipswich squad this summer. The report states that it is a real possibility that the Tractor Boys do cash in on him and Ashton needs to have the final say and greenlight his exit.

Cook has been active in the transfer market this summer his signings have left Norwood surplus to requirements in Suffolk. Conor Chaplin, Louie Barry, Joe Pigott, Macauley Bonne and Sone Aluko have all been brought in either on loan or permanently and can all play as a striker. The club signing five players in the striker position does not bode well for the player who occupied that role last season, with Norwood now potentially behind them all in the pecking order.

Chaplin and Pigott both started the opening game of the season, with Bonne coming off the bench to score. Aluko and Barry then made their debuts in the League Cup on Tuesday night. This shows that Cook is already bedding the new forwards in, which could leave Norwood surplus to requirements.

The £4.1k-per-week flop scored nine goals in the 2020/21 League One campaign, averaging an unimpressive WhoScored rating of 6.68. This shows that he was unable to score goals on a regular basis and that his overall performances were not outstanding, which is why Ipswich should now be looking to move him on.

After a lacklustre season last time out and with a wealth of new striking options for Cook to choose from, it could be the perfect time for the Town to cash in on Norwood. At the age of 30, his value is unlikely to increase and they may not find a better time to sell him.

Reporter claims Newcastle move would be step down for Willock

Shields Gazette reporter Liam Kennedy concedes a permanent move to Newcastle United would be seen as a step down for Joe Willock, amid reports of a permanent £25m deal being agreed.

The Arsenal midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at St James’ Park, where he scored eight goals in 14 appearances.

His stunning form in front of goal also saw him become the first player to find the back of the net in seven consecutive Premier League fixtures since Alan Shearer.

Willock’s performances helped Newcastle steer well clear of the Premier League relegation zone and Magpies chief Steve Bruce had made the former England under-21 international his top target in the transfer window.

Although Newcastle initially looked to make Willock’s move permanent, they also began exploring the possibility of another temporary deal being struck, before the latest breakthrough.

Speaking prior to this update, Kennedy believed that it was a big decision for the youngster, who is clearly looking for regular first team football.

He told Football FanCast: “Does he want to stay at Arsenal and potentially be a fringe man? It wouldn’t be particularly damaging for his career if he stayed at Arsenal for another season because he is only 21.

“It would be a considerable step down to come to Newcastle United on a permanent move.”

Cricinfo previews the Asia Cup final between India and Sri Lanka

Big PictureAfter a frenetic 11-day period that saw 12 matches, Sri Lanka and India have survived the crammed schedule, the heat, and a few wobbles to make their way to yet another Asia Cup final. Historically, these two sides have been the strongest in the tournament, winning seven of the eight editions so far; Sunday’s game will be their sixth meeting in Asia Cup finals. The excellent batting pitches have been a constant throughout the tournament, and the teams to survive have utilised these conditions better than others – India and Sri Lanka have easily been the best batting teams of the competition. Both have settled line-ups, with most of their top order in superb form, which points towards another run-fest on Sunday. With both teams in such exceptional batting touch, the difference in the final could be a bowling spell or some inspiration in the field. Nine matches have already been played on the same square at the National Stadium, suggesting that spinners might have something to look forward to. Sri Lanka have the clear advantage in that department, with Muttiah Muralitharan and the exciting Ajantha Mendis leading the way.Sri Lanka also have the edge in the field. India’s exceptional batting has masked their generally sloppy fielding throughout the tournament. Catches have been missed, the ground fielding has been erratic and, in a crunch game, these factors could well be critical.Form guide (Last five completed ODIs; most recent first)
India WLWWW
Sri Lanka LWWWWWatch out for …Sanath Jayasuriya, who loves the big occasion, and he loves batting against India. If he survives the early overs, the Indian bowlers could be in for more tough times.Gautam Gambhir. He has been consistency personified in ODIs this year, and his excellence against spin makes him a key batsman for India against an attack featuring Muralitharan and Mendis. The battle of the openers: Gambhir and Sehwag have added 319 runs for the first wicket in four innings at an average partnership of 79.75 and a rate of 8.14 runs per over; Jayasuriya and Sangakkara have averaged 88.75 per partnership at seven runs per over. The new-ball bowlers from both teams clearly have their work cut out.Murali v Yuvraj: Yuvraj has often struggled against slow bowlers at the start of his innings, and if he bats at No. 5, there’s a good chance that he’ll be confronted by Murali as soon as he comes in.Team newsSri Lanka had rested Chaminda Vaas and Ajantha Mendis for their last round-robin match, against India, but both are certain to return for the final. Two out of Kaushalya Weeraratne, Thilan Thusahara and Dilhara Fernando will sit out. None of them has had tournaments to remember so far, but Fernando’s experience might help him retain his place.Sri Lanka (probable) 1 Sanath Jayasuriya, 2 Kumar Sangakkara (wk), 3 Mahela Jayawardene (capt), 4 Chamara Kapugedera, 5 Chamara Silva, 6 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 7 Chaminda Vaas, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Ajantha Mendis, 10 Muttiah Muralitharan, 11 Dilhara Fernando.India’s batting has been spectacular throughout the tournament, but the bowling is a worry. The biggest concern has been Irfan Pathan, who, after missing the first three games due to a side strain, has leaked 148 runs in 20 overs for just a solitary wicket. His place could be taken by Yusuf Pathan. Pragyan Ojha will keep his place after two tidy performances, which means Piyush Chawla misses out.India (probable) 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Virender Sehwag, 3 Suresh Raina, 4 Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), 5 Yuvraj Singh, 6 Rohit Sharma, 7 Yusuf Pathan, 8 Praveen Kumar, 9 Pragyan Ojhan, 10 RP Singh, 11 Ishant Sharma.Umpires Simon Taufel & Tony Hill. Third umpire Zameer HaiderStats and trivia Sri Lanka haven’t lost to India in the last six finals between the two teams – they’ve won four while two were rained out. The last time India won a final against them was ten years ago, in the Singer-Akai Nidahas Trophy. Sanath Jayasuriya averages 51.54 at a strike rate of 100.17 in finals against India. In 11 innings he has scored one hundred and four fifties, including a 99. Muttiah Muralitharan has an excellent economy rate of 4.03 in finals against India. In seven innings, he has taken nine wickets at 28.22. India’s top five (Gambhir, Sehwag, Raina, Dhoni and Yuvraj) all average more than fifty in the tournament, with Dhoni the only one with a strike rate – 97.88 – less than 100.Quotes”Mendis is a big-game player and he has the ability to play well in big matches and we will be counting on him in the final.”
Mahela Jayawardene names his trump card for the final”Our openers have given us good starts and if they continue to do so it would keep pressure off the middle order and set the foundation.”

O clube deve oficializar a rescisão nesta quinta-feira.

6/6 – Academia Store Shopping Plaza Sul
17 e 18/6 – Academia Store Jundiaí
27/6 – Academia Store Guarulhos
11/7 – Academia Store do Shopping Continental
25/7 – Academia Store Sorocaba
8/8 – Academia Store West Plaza
Sem data definida – Academia Store Brasília

Kallis passed fit for Edgbaston

South Africa’s all-rounder, Jacques Kallis, will play in Wednesday’s third Test against England at Edgbaston despite injuring his ring finger

Cricinfo staff28-Jul-2008South Africa’s all-rounder, Jacques Kallis, will play in Wednesday’s third Test against England at Edgbaston despite injuring his ring finger while batting against Bangladesh A during their one-sided warm-up game at New Road on Thursday.Kallis is the only South African batsman to have missed out during the first two Tests, having managed only 24 runs in three innings. He made 55 against Bangladesh A before being forced to retire hurt, but he came through a full training session in Birmingham on Monday morning to allay fears about his fitness.”Jacques is 100% fine,” said a team spokesman. “He has been in the nets at Edgbaston and taken part in a full practice session.”The news means that South Africa are set to make a solitary change to the side that won the second Test at Headingley by ten wickets. Dale Steyn misses out with a broken thumb, which he sustained while fielding at Headingley, so Andre Nel is in line for his first Test call-up since the visit of West Indies in January.”We’ve backed him a huge amount over the last couple of months and I’ve got a feeling he is going to come through this one fantastically,” said South Africa’s coach, Mickey Arthur. ” We have the ability now to lose one guy and be able to bring back a guy who is a hardened Test-match campaigner.”
