Gary Kirsten has said that India’s goal in 2009 is to be the No. 1 team in the world. India’s coach, who has received praise from many in the Indian team, felt the side’s biggest improvement in recent times was the way they prepared for a game.Following Australia’s loss to New Zealand in the second ODI at the MCG, India have moved to second place in the ICC’s official ODI rankings. “Getting to No. 1 is the obvious goal for this year,” said Kirsten, “but it’s not playing too much on our minds. To do that, it’s important for the basics to be right. We are just trying to focus on taking it game by game and series by series. The team ethic is great. Everyone is preparing really well for a game and we are moving in the right direction.”Today’s was an optional nets session at the R Premadasa, and the attendees included SachinTendulkar, L Balaji, Irfan Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja. Tendulkar batted for 45 minutes and was constantly chatting with the bowlers on the correct line to bowl. Venkatesh Prasad, India’s bowling coach, spent lots of time with Irfan, primarily working on his length. Tendulkar even bowled to Jadeja and passed some tips now and then to the young allrounder.Irfan’s form has been a concern for India. Given the new ball in the last game – his only appearance on tour so far – Irfan ended up with 3 for 58 from seven overs; his first spell read 5-0-42-1 as Sanath Jayasuriya went after him. India have been using their slow bowlers in the middle overs, retaining the seamers for the Powerplays.Kirsten had earlier said the lack of an allrounder who bowls seam had forced the team to take that route, and he felt it had been a bit difficult for Irfan as he has been in and out of the team. “I really can’t comment after just one game,” said Kirsten. “He [Irfan] is working hard in the nets. He has a good work ethic and hopefully will get the rewards for it.”To be the No. 1 team in the world, Kirsten said that India would have to dominate the opposition consistently. It was something that Gautam Gambhir also stressed upon, while talking about the dead-rubber game at this same venue on February 8. “When you playing for your country you can’t take any game lightly,” he said. “It’s going to be a fantastic achievement if we can make it 5-0. You want to be a part of the team which is creating this history.”You can’t just think that you have won the series 4-0 and be complacent for the next game. It doesn’t happen with us. When you go onto the field you go to win and not just compete. Great teams are those that carry the momentum forward into every game.”India have won the series and the final match is to be played at the R Premadasa as well.

Steven Gerrard has provided an update on Rangers centre-forward Alfredo Morelos’ injury situation.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Alfredo Morelos was rested from the start against Motherwell to protect him from aggravating his hamstring injury.

The Gers head coach has revealed that he had a tight hamstring after the defeat to Lyon and that he did not want to risk him on Sunday.

He told Rangers TV, via the Glasgow Times:

“Alfredo Morelos has had a bit of a tight hamstring I don’t think it would have been sensible to throw him into this game.

“We have important games to come so I wanted to protect him from himself today.”

Fans will be delighted

Rangers fans will surely be delighted to hear this update from Gerrard as it confirms that Morelos’ issue will not prevent him from starting in the next few matches. He played the final 15 minutes off the bench and fans could be forgiven for thinking that was a sign that he may not be 100% fit for a couple of games as he was not able to play a significant portion of the match after his injury.

However, Gerrard has made it clear that he was simply being protected ahead of other important matches. This means that Morelos could find himself back in the starting XI against Dundee at the weekend, assuming he is also rested for the League Cup match against Livingston on Wednesday to get him fully up to speed.

Morelos has one goal and one assist in five league appearances for Rangers this season, but his previous record in the division suggests that he will hit the goal trail sooner rather than later.

Last term, he scored 12 goals in 26 starts, which came after 12 goals in 18 starts the year before – showing that he has the quality to score goals regularly at this level.

This indicates that the goals will flow for Morelos eventually, which is why getting him back fully fit as soon as possible will be a boost for the Gers. Fans will be delighted to see him back in the starting XI next weekend if he is deemed fit enough, as he has the pedigree in the Scottish Premiership to win matches on his own.

The Verdict: Building for the future

While Bielsa’s men are enjoying a great period in the club’s history currently, it is vital that the long-term picture is always looked at.

Eventually, the Argentine will move on and key players will either age or leave as well, so ensuring there is top young talent to replace them is vital.

The current crop certainly look like a hugely gifted bunch, with Joe Gelhardt arguably a standout figure, and it will be fascinating to see how they continue to thrive as the Premier League 2 season progresses.

Ex-Everton star Michael Ball insists that he is gutted James Rodriguez has left the club.

The Colombia international has finally departed Goodison Park after a long-running summer transfer saga.

Of course, it seemed inevitable that he would be departing the club as soon as Carlo Ancelotti decided to abscond from Everton to join Real Madrid.

Rodriguez was continually linked with a move away throughout the summer transfer window, but no deal could be agreed.

The former Real star only made a total of 26 first-team appearances for the club, and never played for Everton at a packed Goodison Park.

However, he has now headed to Qatar to join Al-Rayyan, and Ball has expressed his discontent at the move, because he feels fans missed an opportunity to see a top player in the club’s royal blue.

He said: “I’m gutted to be honest. I think a lot of Everton fans are. Because of the situation with COVID last year, we didn’t get a chance to see him at a packed Goodison Park and we just don’t know what level he could have achieved for the club.”

In total, Rodriguez scored six goals and registered nine assists for Everton but will now be playing in Qatar, having signed a contract until 2024 with the Stars League club.

O caso de Pedro Scudieri serviu para unir as torcidas dos quatro times do Rio de Janeiro se mobilizarem. No período em que o tricolor ficou internado, vários torcedores doaram sangue no Hospital do Amparo. Além disso, a torcida do Fluminense prestou suas homenagens a Scudi em várias partidas, inclusive com um mosaico na vitória sobre a Universidad Católica-EQU, no Maracanã.
