Harmison shocked me, he didn’t have a drink at all and he said he was off the beer for another month. He was being sensible and I thought ‘good on him’.”Freddie [Flintoff], who was sat on a table opposite from myself with some friends from Lancashire, had literally two glasses of wine with dinner. He too was very sensible.”Morris, who is accompanying the tour to bring some stability to the management structure in the absence of a head coach, has sought to limit any potential damage. Pointing out that “the next day there was no cricket”, Morris said: “Everyone was bitterly disappointed by the result [of the Kingston Test], none more so than Andrew and Steve. It’s certainly not a case of the players not caring. They were deeply hurt by the result in Jamaica and it was a question of being invited onto a boat to have dinner. It was no reflection on the hurt the players were feeling.”

It looks as though the 44-time capped Uruguay international could still be on the move this season, however, with his agent telling Calcio Napoli 24 [via Sport Witness] that Cagliari have agreed to let him leave:

“Cagliari? Giulini has promised the player and me to do everything possible so that he leaves in the January market.

“Nandez wants to win something; he wants to play in the Champions League. The president has given us his word, Nandez has been the most expensive player in Cagliari’s history, but we know the crisis there has been.

“Goodbye on loan or outright? I think he will sell him at a lower price than the one requested, there is a 36 million clause, but the president spoke yesterday with Nandez and told him that he will lower the price and let him leave.”

While Leeds aren’t specifically mentioned in the report, it means they could have the green light to go back in for him.

The Verdict: Perfect midfield addition

Nandez, hailed as ‘unstoppable’ and ‘amazing’ by Serie A pundit Mina Rzouki, remains an excellent option for the Whites, considering his all-round effectiveness as a midfielder.

He has averaged 1.7 tackles per game in the league this season, but also 1.8 dribbles, showing he could give Marcelo Bielsa’s squad a much-needed boost in quality on both sides of the ball.

With Kalvin Phillips also possibly on the move next summer, if some reports are to be believed, it is essential that he is replaced with a top-quality option.

While Nanded’s agent mentions a desire for Champions League football, perhaps a January loan with an option to buy could work for all parties, as it’s hard to imagine the midfielder not wanting to stay after 6 months getting his teeth into Premier League action.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie as new manager Nuno Espirito Santo looks to add further reinforcements to his first-team squad.

According to The Sun, Spurs are one of three Premier League sides interested in securing the 23-year-old’s signature, with West Ham United and Aston Villa also listed as potential suitors.

It goes on to claim that Juve have placed a £25m price tag on McKennie, although they would be open to the prospect of an initial loan deal in January as long as there is an obligation to buy the player in the summer.
