Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani will not feature against Leeds United this afternoon, with a fresh problem now emerging.

The Lowdown: Cavani’s absence

Cavani, labelled as a ‘highly important’ player by Ralf Rangnick, has missed 14 Premier League matchday squads this season, most of which have been due to various injuries.

The 35-year-old has missed games against Southampton and Brighton with a groin problem but was pictured back in training on Thursday. However, despite this, it doesn’t look as if he will play any part at Elland Road this afternoon.

The Latest: Rangnick’s comments

Talking ahead of the trip to Elland Road, relayed by @utdreport, Rangnick gave an update on the striker’s condition.

He admitted that the Uruguayan is still suffering from the groin issue and claimed he is now having problems with his stomach too.

“As it seems, Edinson Cavani will still be out, he’s still having some problems with his groin and his stomach.”

The Verdict: A blow

United had a lack of central attacking options to bring off the bench in the week, so having Cavani back involved against Marcelo Bielsa’s side would have been handy.

You’d expect Cristiano Ronaldo will once again lead the line for the Red Devils, and should Rangnick go with an unchanged side, Marcus Rashford would be the only available attacker to bring on.

Strength in depth is crucial at this stage of the season, and hopefully, Cavani will be back in time for Wednesday’s trip to Atletico Madrid.

Na atividade desta quinta-feira, no campo anexo do Estádio Nilton Santos, o Botafogo fez uma atividade fechada à imprensa. Matheus Fernandes, que havia sido preservado do treino anterior por dores no pé esquerdo, foi a campo. O volante, no entanto, desceu mais cedo.

When reports emerged earlier this calendar year that Spurs could be interested in bringing Eriksen back, Conte did not completely shut the door, instead offering some hope that a deal could be done.

The current Spurs boss said: “No. Honestly no (we didn’t discuss signing him). Honestly I was surprised about the situation because in my mind, honestly, I thought Christian needed more time before coming back to play in England.

“For sure, Eriksen is part of Tottenham’s story. To come back here would be a good opportunity for him, for me, for the club, but now he’s signed for Brentford, only six months, and we’ll see what happens.

“We won the league, we spent two important seasons together. I wish him all the best for the future and you don’t know what will happen. It would be good for me to have him again, to work together.”

Given that he would be available on a free transfer, and having proven that he can still cut it at the highest level in the Premier League, signing the 110-goal Eriksen would be a masterclass move from Fabio Paratici.

A última vez que o time perdeu em 40% dos dez jogos iniciais em cada temporada ocorreu em 2000, sob o comando de Levir Culpi. Mas, há 18 anos, o desempenho era melhor: a equipe, ao menos, conseguiu seis vitórias, com um aproveitamento de 60% dos pontos que disputou – e foi campeão paulista.

Dorival acumula neste ano 53,3% de aproveitamento, com quatro derrotas, um empate e cinco triunfos. Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that the club are going to be in the market to bolster their defence in the summer ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

The reporter has named the Barcelona full-back as a player who could come through the door, as Victor Orta looks to improve their options across the back four.
