Vardy scored a superb header to bring Leicester level in their opening game of the season against Tottenham. The goal earned the Foxes a point, and he was substituted before full-time, engaging in a spat with Spurs fans and defender Romero, as he pointed at his Premier League badge, seemingly to remind the travelling support that he has lifted the trophy, and no Tottenham player has.

Before leaving the pitch, Vardy was also spotted telling Romero to "f*ck off" after a number of physical clashes throughout the game. Spurs will be disappointed not to have won the game, given their dominance, but will be concerned about Rodrigo Bentancur, who suffered a head injury.

Leeds United expected to sell £20,000-a-week star for over 750% profit

Leeds United are expected to cash in on one of their stars this summer for a massive profit, it has been revealed.

Leeds reveal financial situation

Earlier in April, Leeds United revealed that they had lost £33.7m across the 2022-23 season, with an increased wage bill up to £145m and operating costs rising by £71m.

Though less than the £36m loss the year before, it is still a worrying trend and there are concerns around whether the numbers are sustainable with regard to financial fair play, especially if Daniel Farke's side were to find themselves spending another season in the Championship.

Leeds could soon cash in on a player who's worth more than Dan James

Leeds United will be faced with a conundrum about what to do with this star in the summer.

They still owe a significant portion of transfer fees for the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Georginio Rutter and Maximilian Wober, with the club reportedly oweing a massive £190m in fees, but with just £2m set to head into their pocket for their own players.

It means that they are likely to have to sell this summer in a bid to avoid financial fair play issues further down the line, especially should they wish to reinvest in the squad further.

Fortunately, there are some obvious candidates to consider, with plenty of the signings made under Jesse Marsch now out on loan and likely to have no future under Farke's new regime, while Luis Sinisterra has joined Bournemouth and Jack Harrison could make his loan move to Everton permanent.

Everton's loan forward Jack Harrison.

But there are still concerns that two of their stars could depart, with Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray both the subject of strong Premier League and international interest, and their departures far more likely should Leeds miss out on promotion back to the top flight come the end of the season.

Leeds, however, will do everything they can to avoid having to sell the pair.

Leeds prepared to cash in on Gnonto

Now, in a fresh update from Football Insider, Leeds are ready to sell Italian forward Wilfried Gnonto this summer in a bid to ease their financial problems.

Though Pete O'Rourke claims that the Whites don't want to sell Gnonto in an ideal world, he has admitted that the Italian has his price tag set, with Leeds set to demand between £20m and £30m and ready to "accept an offer at the higher end of that threshold" this summer.

The deal would also see them save around £20,000 per week in wages, though it is unlikely they will find a replacement of his calibre willing to accept being one of the club's lowest earners.

Gnonto has previously been subject to strong Premier League interest as well as clubs in Serie A, with Arsenal and Manchester City even touted as potential destinations last summer. The Italian has endured an up and down year in the Championship, struggling to become a regular starter under Farke after his push to leave but still managing eight goals and two assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

Bought by Leeds for just 4.5m euros (£3.9m), a sale for £30m would see them make a profit of just over £26m, or 770% on their initial investment.

In a summer where they are likely to have to accept losses on plenty of their high profile players to get them to leave, Gnonto's departure could be a welcome change in that department, though it is as of yet unclear if any club will be willing to meet that asking price for the Italian.

Raphinha can do it all! Barcelona smash SEVEN past Real Valladolid as Brazil star nets three and gets two assists to put Real Madrid on red alert amid perfect La Liga

    TELL ME MORE

Barcelona maintained their strong start to the season and hardly broke a sweat to outclass Valladolid on a sunny afternoon at the Montjuic. Hansi Flick's men dominated possession right from the first whistle and it was a matter of when and not if they would score.

Within just 20 minutes, Raphinha got the first goal after Pau Cubarsi floated a lovely long ball over the defence. The Brazilian chested it down before squeezing it past Karl Hein between the sticks. Four minutes later, Robert Lewandowski joined the party and scored in a similar fashion after Lamine Yamal played an inch-perfect long ball for the Polish striker.

Despite taking a healthy 2-0 lead in the match, Barcelona refused to take their feet off the gas and continued to raid Valladolid's defence. They were rewarded with the third goal before half-time with Jules Kounde getting on the scoresheet following a corner kick.

There were hardly any changes in proceedings in the second half as the Barcelona forwards continued to rule the roost. Raphinha scored twice in a span of eight minutes to complete his hat-trick with Yamal setting up his third with a defence-splitting through ball. Dani Olmo had a superb evening and after being denied by the woodwork earlier in the match, he scored the sixth of his team in the 82nd minute before Ferran Torres made it 7-0.

    THE MVP

Raphinha was undoubtedly the star of the match. Whatever he touched turned to gold in the 90 minutes and after completing his hat trick, he fired in two assists for Omo & Torres respectively. A simply outstanding performance which might be the turning point of his career in Spain.

  • THE BIG LOSER

Valladolid goalkeeper Karl Hein had an afternoon to forget. He looked nervy between the sticks and could have done much better in stopping a few of those goals. He was beaten by power on at least two occasions before Raphinha nutmegged him to complete his hat-trick. Things could have been worse but for the woodwork, which saved his skin a couple of times.

Man City are monitoring Marc Guehi's situation and could sign Crystal Palace star for free after England star's failed Newcastle switch

Guehi had been heavily linked with an exit from Crystal Palace this summer as Newcastle United held an intense interest in the 24-year-old centre-back. The Magpies submitted four official bids for the defender but the Eagles remained adamant on their asking price, and rejected all four before Newcastle accepted defeat.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Guehi's current contract with Crystal Palace will come to an end in the summer of 2026, and as such, the Eagles are looking to offer the 24-year-old a new contract that would also see a major bump in wages. However, the Daily Mail has suggested that Guehi is not keen on extending his contract and could look to leave the club for free in 2026. As such, Manchester City are now keeping an eye on the centre-back's situation and could look to sign him on a free deal.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Due to Guehi's apparent disinterest towards signing a contract extension at Selhurst Park, the report has suggested that Crystal Palace now have two options in front of them: try to convince the 24-year-old to sign an extension, or sell him in the next two transfer windows at a cut-price.

Arsenal favourites for ‘insane’ signing who’d make Odegaard even better

As much as the television broadcasters try to drum up some late dramatics, there is an air of inevitability to the fact that Arsenal will likely be trumped by Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.

Alas, this has still been a fabulous season for the Gunners. Mikel Arteta has taken his merry reds to a Champions League quarter-finals and unlike the back end of 2022/23, there hasn't been a torrid collapse.

Still, they may well be forced to rue a late defeat to Aston Villa a couple of weeks ago come May 19th, the final day of the season.

If they do lose out on the title, heads can still be held high and with a transfer window just around the corner, there is a chance to bolster the squad ahead of another challenge next term.

So, who could walk through the doors of the Emirates Stadium? It's expected a striker could be on the cards.

Arsenal's plans for the summer

Reports last week suggested that Arsenal would potentially be open to selling Gabriel Jesus in the summer if appropriate bids came in.

It's been a troubled second campaign in London for the Brazilian who has found the net just four times in Premier League action. Torrid indeed.

Therefore, rumours of a shiny new centre-forward have dominated the rumour mill in recent weeks. One option could be Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy.

That's according to Caught Offside who report this weekend that a number of sides, including Manchester United and Newcastle, are admirers of the 28-year-old striker.

Stuttgart strikerSerhou Guirassy.

Bayern, Dortmund, Atletico and Milan are fellow interested parties. That said, there is a belief that the Guinea international would prefer a move to a Premier League side who will play in the Champions League. That would put Arsenal in pole position should they decide to make a move in a few months.

How Guirassy would fit into the Arsenal side

No team in the top-flight has scored more than Arsenal's 88 goals this term. The idea they require a striker, therefore, is a rather remarkable one.

However, there have been notable moments where they have struggled in the penalty area. During a run of four games across the Christmas period they were guilty of wasting plenty of gilt-edged opportunities.

That was notably the case in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool where Arteta's men spurned chance after chance. They then only scored once over three matches with West Ham, Fulham and Liverpool again, this time in the FA Cup.

Since then, they have found a solution, surprisingly in the form of Kai Havertz, a man who has scored seven goals and registered six assists during 16 outings as a centre forward.

Still, he only has 12 to his name in the league and a more traditional striker must be sourced. In Guirassy, they could find their answer.

As one scout put it, the forward has been in "insane" touch this season, finding the net on 27 occasions in 28 outings. With 25 of those coming in 26 Bundesliga matches, he really is one of the best in his position on the planet right now.

Stats via WhoScored – 2023/24 Domestic Leagues

The Stuttgart star is in some pretty fine company in Europe this season with those numbers far eclipsing those at Arsenal.

Bukayo Saka is currently the club's top goalscorer this season in all competitions with 20 but has 16 in the league. It's been an incredible campaign for the Englishman but both he and those around him would no doubt benefit from a natural goalscorer.

Martin Odegaard could be one that feels the true benefits. He has eight assists to his name in 2023/24 but truth be told, it should be far more.

His expected assist total in the league sits at 10.55 and he has created 94 chances, only second to Bruno Fernandes (108) in the Premier League. The skipper has been on another level and has shown as much in recent weeks.

In the 5-0 rout of Chelsea a few weeks ago, the Norwegian created eight chances from open play. That happened to be the most by an Arsenal player in a league game since Mesut Ozil in October 2017 against Everton. Remarkable stuff.

Thus, if anyone deserves the chance to play alongside an elite striker, it's Odegaard. Perhaps Guirassy isn't mentioned in that breath quite yet but it's evident he can score goals and would surely elevate the club's attacking play.

Courtesy of Odegaard and Co, Arsenal already fashion chances at will but despite their incredible record in front of goal, there is room for improvement. The addition of a centre forward such as Guirassy would certainly help with that.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Red Dragons have made a flying start to the season, going unbeaten through their opening five games and sitting in first place in League One. In August, they collected 10 points from a possible 12, beating Wycombe, Reading and Peterborough, and last week's win over Shrewsbury saw them climb to the top of the standings.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wrexham have enjoyed a meteoric rise since the arrival of co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds in 2021, but special praise should be reserved for Parkinson as well. He has led the Red Dragons to back-to-back promotions and the club will be eyeing a spot in the Championship after their electrifying start to the new campaign.

  • WHAT PARKINSON SAID

Parkinson said: "A lot of hard work has gone into it, from pre-season all the way through to the end of that first month. Everyone connected to the club can take great credit for the work that has gone in. It's great to get the award, for myself but more importantly for everybody; the players, and all the staff – and I mean all the staff, because everybody contributes.

"We can congratulate ourselves on it, but it is just the first month of the season and we know that and there's so much more work to be done. But we're really enjoying being in this division. You can sense it – there's a great anticipation on the training ground every day, and a competitive edge in the way we're going about our business."

    WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

Wrexham face fellow promotion-hopefuls Birmingham on Monday evening, with Reynolds and McElhenney keen to get bragging rights over Blues minority owner Tom Brady.

£670k-p/w Man Utd trio could follow Marcus Rashford through the exit door

The 2023/24 season has been an incredibly tough one for Manchester United. They have had a torrid time in the Premier League so far, currently sitting in sixth in the table on 54 points and now mathematically unable to reach the Champions League next season.

Not only has it been a tough time for Erik ten Hag, but there have been plenty of individuals who have struggled within the team. One of those players is Marcus Rashford, who has not found 2023/24 easy.

The England international has scored just eight goals and has five assists in all competitions for United, a far cry from his stellar 2022/23 campaign, where he scored 30 goals and registered ten assists.

Despite Rashford’s poor form, his record for United speaks for itself. In 399 games for his boyhood club, he has 131 goals and 64 assists. Remarkably, he is 12th on the all-time top goalscorers list, just two behind the legendary Dennis Viollet, who has 133 goals.

With the 26-year-old winger’s form patchy this season, there is talk of United looking to cash in on him. Indeed, a report from The Telegraph’s James Ducker this week explained that INEOS are open to “offers for almost every player”, including Rashford.

He signed a new contract with the club last summer, which could mean a transfer away from United is unlikely. Should a deal for Rashford to leave Old Trafford go through, it would see United save lots of money on his £300k-per-week-wages, as per Capology.

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford.

According to a report from The Atheltic’s David Ornstein, the Red Devils want to “keep Marcus Rashford and help bring 26-year-old back to top form”, suggesting a potential transfer this summer is unlikely.

Instead, there are several other players United could well part ways, considering Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are willing to listen to offers for many players in the United squad.

3

Antony

The first of those players INEOS could sell next summer is Brazil international Antony. According to The Mirror, United are ready to “cut their losses on Antony this summer”.

It has certainly not been a successful transfer so far, given the Brazilian cost United £85.4m from Ajax, a record fee received by an Eredivisie club. In 80 games for the Red Devils, Antony has returned just 11 goals and five assists, and has scored one and assisted one all season in the Premier League in 2023/24.

One of the player's biggest issues is the fact that he is a very predictable winger. The 24-year-old is not particularly confident taking the ball on his right foot, meaning his sole move it to cut inside on his left and shoot, looking to bend it into the top left corner. Whilst this has worked at times for him, it is not very effective because it is easy for defenders to predict.

Creatively, Antony has been massively lacking this season. According to Fbref, he averages just 1.52 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League, which ranks him in the worst 56% of wingers. Not only that, his 0.14 expected assists per 90 minutes rank him in the worst 60%.

However, where Antony does excel is out of possession. He makes 6.44 ball recoveries per 90 minutes, and 3.62 tackles and interceptions per 90 minutes, which both rank him in the top 4%. He works hard off the ball and tracks back well to support his fullback.

With all of these things considered, it does seem like moving the £200k-per-week attacker on could be a smart move for United, because they can reinvest that money and improve their right flank. With that being said, it would be tough to recoup much of the £85.4m fee they spent on him.

2

Victor Lindelof

The second player United could move on this summer is Victor Lindelof. The Sweden captain has been at the club for seven years, but could well be in line to leave Old Trafford.

The Red Devils bought Lindelof from Benfica for £31m back in 2017, and he has since gone on to make 258 appearances for the club, getting on the scoresheet four times and assisting seven in that time. However, he has won just one trophy with United in that time, the Carabao Cup in 2022/23.

One of Lindelof's biggest deficiencies when United are in possession is his progressive passing. He does not possess the ability to consistently play killer long balls like Harry Maguire does, completing just 4.74 per 90 minutes as per Fbref, placing him in the worst 83% of defenders.

Nor does the Swede have the ability to play line-breaking passes in the same vein as Lisandro Martinez, thus struggling with ball progression when playing out from the back. He averages just 2.71 progressive passes per 90 minutes, which ranks him in the worst 67%.

Not only that, the £120k-per-week centre-back struggles in the air, with his 41.7% aerial duel win rate ranking him as low as the bottom 93% of defenders. In fact, he wins just 1.15 aerial duels per 90 minutes, ranking him in among the worst 84%.

United’s number two could well depart from Old Trafford this summer, with Sevilla one side rumoured to be interested in taking him off United’s hands, in a “low-cost” transfer.

1

Casemiro

It has been an incredibly frustrating season for Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, who could leave Old Trafford this summer after just two seasons at the club. The midfielder was described as “awful” by Mark Goldbridge last month, in what has been a torrid few months.

The Red Devils brought Casemiro to the club in the summer of 2022, from Real Madrid for a fee of £70m. Whilst he enjoyed a successful first season in England, his natural decline with age has sped up this season, and he is clearly no longer the player he once was. He has made 79 appearances for United, scoring 12 times and assisting nine.

On the ball, Casemiro can be incredibly frustrating. According to Fbref, the 32-year-old has a pass accuracy of 81.4% in the Premier League, which ranks him with the worst 54% of midfielders.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.

Considering his role in midfield, his progressive passing numbers could be higher. The Brazilian averages 5.44 progressive passes per 90 minutes, and whilst not the worst, places him in the top 27%.

Off the ball, Casemiro’s stats reflect better. He wins 2.28 tackles per 90 minutes, placing him in the top 6% of midfielders, and makes 3.61 blocks per 90 minutes, ranking him in the top 1%. However, he struggles to track runners from midfield, and can’t keep up with opponents when tracking back.

Overall, selling Casemiro could represent good business for United. They could get his astronomical £350k-per-week wage off the club's books, and look to make back some of the £70m they spent on him last summer.

Indeed, there are certainly lots of interesting developments set to occur on the transfer front at Old Trafford. It is a big transfer window ahead for INEOS and Ratcliffe, who could purge the squad and help the club start afresh for next season.

Americans Abroad: Christian Pulisic steps up for Milan, Brenden Aaronson lifts Leeds, multiple man of the match moments

GOAL analyzes the weekend that was for the USMNT's top stars in Europe

Some weeks are quieter than others regarding Americans playing abroad. This was not one of those weeks.

It was a wild one for the U.S. men's national team's top stars, as just about every major name made some sort of contribution. There were goals, assists, debuts, man of the match performances and big moments. To put it simply, this was a fun weekend to follow American soccer.

The vibes are high at the moment. Mauricio Pochettino has arrived, and he'll be watching these players closer than anyone. The new USMNT boss will have reveled in what he saw this weekend. His players are fighting and, if they can bring this sort of energy to the national team, some of that much-discussed intensity may just return by October.

We'll see where these players are by the time USMNT camp starts ahead of friendlies against Panama and Mexico, but this weekend proved that there are some good things happening individually throughout this player pool. GOAL takes a look at the weekend that was for Americans Abroad.

Pulisic the man for the big occasion

Christian Pulisic is a big-game player. You have to acknowledge that by now. AC Milan were handed two marquee matches this week, and Pulisic stole the show in both.

After scoring in Milan's 3-1 Champions League loss to Liverpool, Pulisic put his name on the scoresheet again in Milan's 2-1 win over rivals Inter on Sunday. Pulisic scored the opening goal just 10 minutes in and it was him at his best: confident, direct and, ultimately, composed at the end of it all.

When Pulisic is playing at this level, he's among the most dynamic wingers in the world. That's why Milan bought him, and he continues to repay their faith every week. This was his third Serie A goal of the season, and he's just getting started.

Every week, Pulisic seems to make a difference. If a few of his Milan teammates could reach that sort of level, the Rossoneri could very well make a title push this season. A derby win over a very good Inter team will get that going as, once again, Pulisic led the charge from the front.

    Busio gets going

Hey, it required a little bit of luck, but you make your own luck, right? Busio made his on Saturday with his goal against Genoa, but you can't say it wasn't deserved.

Busio's 63rd-minute cross found its way into the back of the net on Saturday, leading Venezia to the club's first Serie A win of the season. That goal was also Busio's first since returning to Serie A, having made mincemeat of Serie B last season to earn Venezia promotion.

With that promotion, Busio is now back on a bigger stage at the perfect time. As things stand, he's a little way down the midfield depth chart for the USWMNT, which has become increasingly crowded in recent months. There's a very quick way to climb that depth chart, though: sustained performances in Serie A.

Venezia may be in for a grind of a season. It's never easy for a newly-promoted team to solidify their place in a top flight. If they do, though, Busio will likely have played a huge part. And if he does that, the USMNT will need to take a closer look. Serie A has suddenly turned into the USMNT's proving ground, and Busio is the latest to make his mark.

    Richards denies Manchester United

Say what you want about Manchester United, but they'll still always be a big challenge for teams outside of the Big Six. Chris Richards and Crystal Palace handled that challenge about as well as you can defensively.

Starting on the left side of a back three, Richards stood tall all game long, shutting out Man Utd in a scoreless draw at Selhurst Park. It wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing game by any stretch, but Richards isn't there to aesthetically please; he's there to prevent goals.

He did plenty of that. His three tackles were the highest in the match. He won five of his seven duels. Anything Man Utd threw at him, Richards swatted away. Doing that against a top team will always be impressive.

    Aaronson's hot streak continues

Players are often measured by how they respond to difficult things. Brenden Aaronson continues to respond week in, week out.

His return to Leeds was met with trepidation, both from those that support the club and the USMNT. He struggled during his lone season in the Premier League and struggled again in the Bundesliga. How would he handle the rough and tumble Championship with what almost certainly was his final chance?

The answer has been clear. Aaronson has arrived.

He provided another assist this weekend in Leeds' 2-0 win over Cardiff, taking his season total to three goal contributions in just six games. The assist itself was lovely: a perfectly-weighted through-ball to Joel Piroe to put the game away.

He won Leeds' Player of the Month in August, but that may not have just been a hot start; it may have been a sign of things to come.

Ange tells Levy to sign attacker with £60m Tottenham star likely to leave

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has personally told Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to go for an attacker, as one £60 million star looks "very likely" to leave this summer.

Postecoglou wants drastic change as Spurs plan summer overhaul

Postecoglou has been frank in his assessment of the current Spurs squad in recent weeks, making no secret of his belief that Lilywhites transfer chiefs need to implement "drastic" change.

Tottenham have now reached agreement to sign attacking starlet for Ange

They’ve beat “multiple” Premier League sides in the race for his signature.

Emilio Galantini

May 16, 2024

It is believed Tottenham are open to selling over a dozen members of Postecoglou's squad this summer, as uncertainty surrounds the futures of many senior players heading into the summer window's opening on June 14.

Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso, Troy Parrott, Joe Rodon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga, Manor Solomon, Emerson Royal, Yves Bissouma and Djed Spence are among the Spurs players who could reportedly be sold this summer,

Millwall have already agreed a deal to sign Tanganga from Tottenham, as backed by Fabrizio Romano, but still have to shake hands on personal terms with their loanee as they look to officially seal his permanent transfer from N17.

The 25-year-old's exit would get the ball rolling on what looks set to be a real summer of change in north London, with Postecoglou adamant that Spurs' potential journey to the top can't be for everyone.

"It’s impossible to say you’re going to have drastic change and yet expect everyone to be on that journey," said Postecoglou on his evolving Tottenham team.

"It’s not for the want of trying. It’s just that we’re going to play a certain way, we’re going to train a certain way and we’re going to have a certain mindset. And that’s not for everyone. Whether it’s Liverpool or Arsenal, if you look at the beginning of their journeys, by the time they win the competition or have success, the team’s almost unrecognisable.

"That’s the reality if you change [and we’ve] done a major pivot here, so that definitely is the case [for us], yeah."

It is also believed that Postecoglou wants to upgrade his Tottenham side with a new striker, and one which could finally replace club-record goalscorer Harry Kane.
