Caetano acompanhou a entrevista coletiva do técnico Zé Ricardo.

Exclusive: Ball drops big January transfer claim for Man City

Former Manchester City star Michael Ball believes that the club could sign a new striker in January as they look to win both the Premier League and the Champions League.

The club spent the entirety of the summer searching for a new forward, as they lost Sergio Aguero to Barcelona on a free transfer.

Harry Kane was reported to be a target throughout the transfer window but City were unable to reach a deal with Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy.

Reports claim that a bid worth £75m plus £25m in bonuses was tabled for the England captain but he ended up remaining in north London after the two clubs were unable to reach a deal.

In the final week of the transfer window, City were said to be exploring a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus.

He ended up moving to Manchester United, instead, and has scored in every game he has played for the club thus far.

And Ball believes that the club could look to bring a new striker in during the January window as City look to retain their title and also go one step further in the Champions League, having reached last season’s final.

He said: “I feel that the City players who are there need to step up or they find a solution in January with either a striker or other key areas to make that difference to get over the line and bring that trophy home.”

Industrious greenhorns warm to challenge

If the third day at the Wanderers is anything to go by, Australia’s pace attack’s green tinge might not be such a bad thing

In these days of climate change and ozone depletion it has become a badge of honour to be labelled as green. That’s also how Australia’s bowling attack has been described lately. It hasn’t been meant as a compliment. If the third day at the Wanderers is anything to go by,their green tinge might not be such a bad thing.Australia came into the match with three genuine fast bowlers, a medium-pace allrounder and a part-time offspinner. Between the five of them they had played 23 Tests and Mitchell Johnson alone was responsible for 18 of those. Against an experienced and in-form batting line-up that had taught some lessons to a more practiced group in Australia, it was a bowling unit with an awful lot to prove. That they dismissed South Africa for 220 was a terrific achievement. Yes, it was just one innings and yes, the conditions were especially helpful and no, they might not repeat the effort every time. But for now that doesn’t matter. This was the same surface on which South Africa’s powerful attack had bowled too short and allowed Australia to rack up 466.More than simply the final result it was the unbending enthusiasm and control that Australia’s bowlers displayed that was most encouraging. Ricky Ponting was reluctant to use Andrew McDonald and on the third day didn’t employ him until nearly an hour after lunch. Marcus North sent down only seven overs for the innings. It meant a heavy load for three young fast men. Johnson has shown himself to be a quality Test bowler but has been forced to become the spearhead in the absence of the injured Brett Lee. Peter Siddle has displayed promising signs in his four previous Tests but is still learning at the top level. Nobody knew quite how the debutant Ben Hilfenhaus would step up.All three responded well. Johnson took the responsibility of being the new-ball man after settling into the first-change role over the past year and collected 4 for 25 while giving the batsmen no latitude. Siddle fought back from a costly initial spell to grab three wickets and Hilfenhaus, although he only got one breakthrough, swung the ball wildly and built pressure with maiden after maiden.”There’s always the frustration of bowling good balls and there’s always going to be a lot of plays and misses and getting frustrated with that,” Siddle said. “You’ve just got to be patient and keepworking the batsman over. Keep bowling well as a team and in the end you see the success, you get the ten wickets.”It’s hard to believe that Siddle, who is playing his 19th first-class match, is the second-most experienced member of Australia’s attack. Brett Lee and Stuart Clark will be available during the next few months and all Siddle and Hilfenhaus can do is perform as strongly aspossible while the opportunity is there. And strength is a key part of their game. During his first Test inMohali, Siddle impressed the Australian camp because at the end of a long, hot day he was still as quick and fiery as in the morning. Hilfenhaus has the same quality, as he proved two years ago when he bowled nearly 200 more overs in a domestic first-class season than anyother fast bowler in the country. Working hard in a three-man rotation system at the Wanderers was not a stretch. The leader of their group, Johnson, is at the point in his Test career where by recent Australian standards he would be considered the greenhorn. He had a disappointing tour of the West Indies last year and by the end was in danger of losing his spot to Doug Bollinger, the one fast man in this touring party who is not in the XI. But this summer Johnson has gone from strength to strength, with ball and bat. Like Siddle and Hilfenhaus, he is an incredibly hard worker.”Me and him are pretty close,” Siddle said. “We enjoy just having a bit of fun with each other and getting each other going. It’s always good to see him bowling well and going well. It just sort of pumps me up a little bit and I just jump on the ride with him and hopefully go well.”Today, at least, they did go well. There is a long way to go and more experienced men should return to the bowling unit in the next few months. But unlike climate change activists, this is one green group that is happy to be warming up.

Phillips tipped to want Leeds exit

Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips could have his head turned by a Champions League club in the near future, according to Danny Mills.

The Lowdown: Phillips on the rise

The 25-year-old has been a magnificent performer for the Whites for some time, but the wider footballing public is now starting to fully appreciate him, too.

Phillips was excellent at Euro 2020 with England and has subsequently won his country’s Player of the Year award, meaning his stock has never been higher.

The Latest: Mills makes worrying claim

It is only inevitable that there will now be reports suggesting the midfielder could leave Leeds for a club in bigger competitions, and speaking to Football Insider, former Whites defender Mills admits he could see him wanting a fresh challenge:

“The more and more that he’s involved with England, he’s going to start to hear what other clubs do.

“His head will be turned and rightly so by players saying ‘We’re playing against Real Madrid’ ‘We’re playing against PSG’ ‘We’re playing against Barcelona’.

“Undoubtedly there will be a part of him thinking ‘I want a part of that, I want to test myself against the best’.

“If Leeds progress and make it that way, then brilliant. But it’s the second season in the Premier League so you’re going to have to be more realistic than that.

“Another good season this year and there will be some very, very serious offers that come in for Kalvin Phillips.”

The Verdict: Final season at Leeds?

Any Leeds fan would surely love Phillips to spend the rest of his career at Elland Road, but unless they make even greater strides under Marcelo Bielsa this term and push for Europe, that is unlikely.

The England man may want to test himself in the Champions League, as Mills alludes to, and he might feel he belongs at a team challenging for the biggest honours in club football.

It could even be that a massive offer arrives for Phillips next summer, at which point Leeds will have to weigh up the situation – it could be a win win for club and player if the right offer comes in.

Tall challenge for Morkel

Dale Steyn has grabbed the headlines so far on the tour, but it will be another promising fast bowler who will look to make a mark when the South Africans play their warm-up one-dayer against Western Australia in Perth.Morne Morkel’s height, at 2.01m, could prove quite a handful if there is bounce in the strip at the WACA in the first Test from next Thursday. And South Africa want Morkel, who has struggled with his rhythm in recent series, to fire in their quest for a maiden series win in Australia.”He has a lot of pace and he brings bounce into the game, which is his weapon,” AB de Villiers said of his team-mate in the Australian. “He’s a very tall oak. He has a lot of talent, a lot of skill and if he hits his form, he will be quite a handful.”He’s one of the tougher guys in the nets to face. He feels quicker [than Steyn] but it’s probably because of his bounce. He slots in between the 140s and 150s [kph] consistently. He’s pretty quick and physically strong.”Mickey Arthur, the coach, believed Morkel’s addition rounded off a well-balanced pace attack. “For so long South Africa was criticised for having a sameness to their attack,” he said. “When Graeme [Smith] and I decided on a brand of cricket we wanted to play two years ago, we looked for something different.”You’ve got Makhaya [Ntini] who bowls wide of the crease, you’ve got Dale who is really quick through the air, swings it out and is skiddy, and you’ve got Morne, who is very sharp and gets a lot of bounce. There’s nothing the same about our three quicks, which is definitely an advantage.”The hype, though, is on Steyn, who comes to Australia with 60 wickets in 11 Tests at 19.41 in 2008. Morkel, however, has a backer in Allan Donald, the former South Africa fast bowler.”It is scary that he is as good as he is after a handful of Tests,” Donald told SA Cricket magazine. “If he’s not put under unnecessary pressure and is managed well, he’ll surpass anything I achieved in my career.”We haven’t even come close to seeing his best yet and I can’t wait for him to start dominating batting attacks. Manage him well and he could dominate world cricket.”Morkel admitted his accuracy had been off in the past in the quest to pick up wickets. “My role in the team has been clearly defined and that’s as a strike bowler who looks to do something special in a short spell,” he said. “Graeme Smith would often throw the ball to me and give me a licence to bowl as quickly as I possibly could. That sometimes meant I sacrificed accuracy for speed.”

New Zealand push for result in rain-hit match

How they were out

Three days have been lost in the second Test, but New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori decided to make it a contest on the fourth. He declared with less than an hour’s play left in the day, and then struck three blows in his only over to leave Bangladesh in a spot of bother.New Zealand pulled out at 262 for 6, knowing their only chance of victory was to dismiss the hosts twice before the end of the fifth day. Put in to bat, they had wriggled out of an uncomfortable 49 for 3 thanks to a 137-run stand between Jesse Ryder and Brendon McCullum. The pitch had dried out into a batsman-friendly deck by the afternoon. The ball was no longer swinging in the air and Bangladesh’s openers looked relatively comfortable, though Junaid Siddique wasn’t at ease against short-pitched deliveries from Iain O’Brien. However, at 13 without loss and after offspinner Jeetan Patel had already bowled two overs, Vettori began to stamp his mark on the game, just as he had in the first Test.In the tenth over of Bangladesh’s innings, Siddique seemed to lose all concentration, dancing down the pitch to Vettori’s first ball and was stumped by McCullum. Captain Mohammad Ashraful, who was the next man in, kept out the first ball he faced, but was adjudged lbw to his second delivery and the third ball of the over. Rajin Saleh replaced his captain but soon joined Ashraful back in the dressing room following his dismissal on the last ball of the over. He was also trapped in front. It wasn’t one-way domination, though. After the rains finally let up, Ashraful won the toss and elected to bowl. His team had early success. Opener Aaron Redmond was the first to go, shouldering arms to a delivery from Mashrafe Mortaza which pitched on a good length just outside the off stump and cut back sharply. Jamie How’s footwork wasn’t convincing during his brief stay and the failure to meet the ball on the front foot led to his downfall. Facing the debutant Mahbubul Alam in his second over, the ball swung through the air, pitched on middle and knocked over leg stump. New Zealand’s start was far from ideal as they had lost their openers with only 10 on the board.Ross Taylor and Ryder began positively, both looking comfortable on the front foot and Taylor settled in with beautiful drives through the off side. But just as he looked set for a bigger score, he became the second player to be dismissed by an error in judgement. Like Redmond, he shouldered arms to a delivery from Shahadat Hossain, only to see it cut back off the pitch to hit the stumps. Taylor fell for 19 and ended the partnership of 39.Ryder and McCullum helped New Zealand take the upper hand. Ryder was finally dismissed nine runs short of what would have been his first Test century in his second Test. He and McCullum both punished any short bowling through the leg side, while anything over pitched on the off side was swiftly dispatched gracefully to the boundary.Going to lunch at 198 for 4, McCullum added two to his lunch score of 64 before he got a leading edge to a delivery from Shakib Al Hasan. He was caught at midwicket by Ashraful. Vettori hit a quick 22 before he played a delivery from Ashraful onto his stumps with the score at 233. Daniel Flynn was unbeaten on 35 and Grant Elliott had made 8 when the declaration came. The pick of the Bangladesh bowlers was Shakib, who took 1 for 57 off 22 overs. Alam impressed in his first spell, swinging the ball in the air and moving it off the pitch. While a result may be unlikely tomorrow, the New Zealanders will know they can win a Test match in two days. They did it in the first Test against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2005. Vettori is likely to be their key man tomorrow; in that Harare win, he had match figures of 6 for 29 and scored 127 off just 98 deliveries.

Southampton confirm Armstrong signing

Many Southampton fans have been left buzzing as the club confirmed the signing of Adam Armstrong on their official Twitter page.

As per their website, the St. Mary’s faithful have signed the striker from Blackburn Rovers on a four-year deal, with Ralph Hasenhuttl lauding him as a ‘dynamic’ player who will bring ‘a lot of qualities’ to the side.

With Danny Ings moving on to Aston Villa on a permanent deal earlier on in the summer transfer window, the Saints desperately needed to bring in a replacement, and Armstrong has all of the qualities to thrive in the Premier League.

The Englishman scored no fewer than 29 goals and made a further five assists in 43 games in total over all competitions across the 2020/21 season (Transfermarkt), and so is more than capable of replacing the goals that Ings guaranteed when he was at the club.

Jemson backs more Liverpool transfer business - exclusive

Former professional footballer Nigel Jemson is expecting Liverpool to further business in this transfer window.

The Reds completed the signing of defender Ibrahima Konate from Red Bull Leipzig for £36m earlier on in the window but haven’t made any further additions since.

The Anfield outfit have been linked with many names this summer, with reporter Matthew Scianitti posting that sources told TSN Sports that if Lille chose to sell Jonathan David this summer, then Liverpool have the Canadian high up on their list of potential additions.

Whilst CaughtOffside reported that the representatives of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez are attempting to get their client a move to Anfield this summer.

And Jemson fully expects Liverpool to conclude more deals before the summer transfer window closes, exclusively telling Football FanCast: “I’m a bit of Liverpool supporter, they’ve made an addition to that squad, I’m sure they’re going to make another couple of signings.”

Despite injuries to the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Fabinho last season, Liverpool still managed to finish third in the Premier League to secure Champions League football for another season.

Give those issues, Liverpool fans will be pleased if Jemson’s prediction is correct, with a lack of squad depth ultimately preventing Jurgen Klopp’s side from successfully defending their Premier League crown last term.

6/6 – Academia Store Shopping Plaza Sul
17 e 18/6 – Academia Store Jundiaí

Ipswich considering Norwood sale

An update has emerged on Ipswich striker James Norwood, regarding his future at Portman Road.

What’s the talk?

According to Football League World, Ipswich are contemplating the sale of James Norwood between now and the end of the transfer window.

The report claims that Paul Cook is open to parting ways with the forward, although no specific teams are mentioned as lining up a swoop for his services at this time.

Cook doesn’t need him

Mark Ashton must sanction a sale for Norwood and ruthlessly axe him from the Ipswich squad this summer. The report states that it is a real possibility that the Tractor Boys do cash in on him and Ashton needs to have the final say and greenlight his exit.

Cook has been active in the transfer market this summer his signings have left Norwood surplus to requirements in Suffolk. Conor Chaplin, Louie Barry, Joe Pigott, Macauley Bonne and Sone Aluko have all been brought in either on loan or permanently and can all play as a striker. The club signing five players in the striker position does not bode well for the player who occupied that role last season, with Norwood now potentially behind them all in the pecking order.

Chaplin and Pigott both started the opening game of the season, with Bonne coming off the bench to score. Aluko and Barry then made their debuts in the League Cup on Tuesday night. This shows that Cook is already bedding the new forwards in, which could leave Norwood surplus to requirements.

The £4.1k-per-week flop scored nine goals in the 2020/21 League One campaign, averaging an unimpressive WhoScored rating of 6.68. This shows that he was unable to score goals on a regular basis and that his overall performances were not outstanding, which is why Ipswich should now be looking to move him on.

After a lacklustre season last time out and with a wealth of new striking options for Cook to choose from, it could be the perfect time for the Town to cash in on Norwood. At the age of 30, his value is unlikely to increase and they may not find a better time to sell him.
