Ange tells Levy to sign attacker with £60m Tottenham star likely to leave

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has personally told Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to go for an attacker, as one £60 million star looks "very likely" to leave this summer.

Postecoglou wants drastic change as Spurs plan summer overhaul

Postecoglou has been frank in his assessment of the current Spurs squad in recent weeks, making no secret of his belief that Lilywhites transfer chiefs need to implement "drastic" change.

Tottenham have now reached agreement to sign attacking starlet for Ange

They’ve beat “multiple” Premier League sides in the race for his signature.

It is believed Tottenham are open to selling over a dozen members of Postecoglou's squad this summer, as uncertainty surrounds the futures of many senior players heading into the summer window's opening on June 14.

Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso, Troy Parrott, Joe Rodon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga, Manor Solomon, Emerson Royal, Yves Bissouma and Djed Spence are among the Spurs players who could reportedly be sold this summer,

Millwall have already agreed a deal to sign Tanganga from Tottenham, as backed by Fabrizio Romano, but still have to shake hands on personal terms with their loanee as they look to officially seal his permanent transfer from N17.

The 25-year-old's exit would get the ball rolling on what looks set to be a real summer of change in north London, with Postecoglou adamant that Spurs' potential journey to the top can't be for everyone.

"It’s impossible to say you’re going to have drastic change and yet expect everyone to be on that journey," said Postecoglou on his evolving Tottenham team.

"It’s not for the want of trying. It’s just that we’re going to play a certain way, we’re going to train a certain way and we’re going to have a certain mindset. And that’s not for everyone. Whether it’s Liverpool or Arsenal, if you look at the beginning of their journeys, by the time they win the competition or have success, the team’s almost unrecognisable.

"That’s the reality if you change [and we’ve] done a major pivot here, so that definitely is the case [for us], yeah."

It is also believed that Postecoglou wants to upgrade his Tottenham side with a new striker, and one which could finally replace club-record goalscorer Harry Kane.

Postecoglou tells Levy to sign forward with Richarlison "very likely" to go

According to GiveMeSport, £60 million striker Richarlison is "very likely" to leave Spurs, with Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal thought to be preparing an offer to take him to the Middle East.

They add that Postecoglou has personally told Levy to sign a new forward for Tottenham this summer. The Australian is prioritising Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez as a particular favourite for the role, coming after the Mexico international's scintillating Eredivisie campaign.

Gimenez has chalked up 23 goals in 30 Dutch top flight outings this season, scoring two in the Champions League as well.

Palmer 2.0: Chelsea can sign Maresca a "superstar" Olise alternative

Cole Palmer’s performance levels during his first campaign as a Chelsea player have been absolutely phenomenal.

Truth be told, without the 22-year-old, who knows where the Blues would be right now? But one thing is for certain: they’d be much worse off.

The England international has well and truly exceeded every expectation, scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists in 29 starts, the most goal involvements in the league.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at a Chelsea target who could just become Palmer 2.0 under Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea’s search for another Palmer

According to a report from GiveMeSport earlier this week, Chelsea are in the race to sign Eberechi Eze – having also shown an interest in teammate Michael Olise, alongside Manchester United.

It’s reported that a fee of at least £60m will be demanded by Crystal Palace for their star man, but Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival the Blues for his signature.

Given that the Eagles number ten has been simply outstanding this season, it’s no surprise to see that the most elite English clubs are interested.

Over the course of the campaign, the midfielder made 27 appearances, scoring an impressive 11 goals and providing four assists in the process.

His performances may have just earned him a spot on the plane to Germany for the European Championships with England, which just proves how influential he’s been.

Why Eze could be the next Palmer

Based on Eze’s statistics from this season alone, it’s clear to see that the attacking midfielder has plenty of similarities to Palmer.

This is both in terms of their style of play and their statistics, which is why they’ve been classed as 'similar players’ by FBref – when looking at Premier League players.

As displayed above, the duo are extremely technical players who thrive when operating in tight central zones, where they can get on the half-turn and create magic.

They also both bring goals from midfield, which would make Chelsea incredibly dangerous in the final third due to the unpredictability that they provide.

On top of that, Eze is well and truly the heartbeat at Palace; he’s the instigator in turning defence into attack, which the Chelsea faithful have seen Palmer do all season long.

Just like Palmer, Eze can play across the attack due to his insane technical class, but the former Queens Park Rangers ace could even play slightly deeper, as shown by his four tackles and seven duels won against Aston Villa on the final day of the season.

However, the main difference between Palmer and Eze is that the latter is slightly more dynamic, using his silky dribbling to weave past the opposition, which is why Palace’s number ten has been described as a “superstar” by analyst Ben Mattinson.

Furthermore, as you can see from the graphic above, if Chelsea did opt for Eze over Olise, they’d be getting a player who’s just as talented and just as impactful in the final third.

Overall, the signing of Eze would be absolutely fantastic for Chelsea, and his position in a left-sided midfield role under Maresca could genuinely take him to the level of Palmer.

Man Utd want £300k-p/w "leader" likened to Declan Rice to play with Mainoo

Manchester United could make an audacious swoop to fill the Casemiro sized hole in their ranks this summer, it has been claimed, by signing a man likened to Arsenal star Declan Rice.

Mainoo the main man

There is no doubt that going forwards, Kobbie Mainoo will be the main man in Erik ten Hag's midfield. The talented teen is already a full England international and looks set for stardom, while he is one of just three Manchester United players not up for transfer ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Fabrizio Romano: INEOS close to new deal for "really important" Man Utd man

It could be their most important move of the summer.

But beyond him, there are question marks. Sofyan Amrabat's loan spell has come to an end, and he will return to Fiorentina as things stand, while Casemiro has been strongly linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

There are few other alternatives for Ten Hag, with only Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay the options in the middle of the park.for the Dutchman to call upon. As a result, the club have turned to the transfer market, and are reportedly ready to make their move.

New midfielder in United's sights

Now, a fresh report has linked Manchester United with a move for Bayern Munich stalwart Leon Goretzka as they look to reinvent their midfield options. The German has been a mainstay in the Bayern side in recent seasons, but the emergence of Alexander Pavlovic has seen his importance diminish somewhat.

Goretzka drew plenty of praise from Bayern chief Christoph Freund, who labelled him a "top player" and "leader" less than 12 months ago.

"Leon is an absolute top player, which he has consistently proven at the highest level over many years. In the past few weeks, he has shown strong performances in various positions, playing with a broken hand – that shows his great mentality. Leon is a leader who always leads the way on the pitch and takes responsibility even in difficult situations.”

A no-nonsense midfielder, Goretzka grabbed six goals and seven assists in 30 Bundesliga outings last season, and statistically speaking is similar to Arsenal's Declan Rice (according to stat site fbref), who Manchester United were keen to sign before he made the move to north London.

The 29-year-old still has two years left to run on his £300,000 a week deal in Bavaria, but Football Transfers report that he has "been made available for a move this window" as Bayern look to freshen up their side under Vincent Kompany.

Goretzka himself may also be keen on a departure, having missed out on Germany's EURO 2024 squad and seemingly out of favour with the national side.

The report continues that Manchester United would be willing to offer around 40m euros (£34m) for his services this summer, which could prove a tempting offer for Kompany and co. if they are really keen to get rid of the German ahead of the new season.

United, meanwhile, would be getting an excellent addition to their midfield engine room who would certainly prove more mobile and physical than Casemiro, and may allow Mainoo to flourish further at Old Trafford.

Evergreen Darren Stevens bags five to put Kent on top

Hampshire dismissed for 191 but take two quick wickets as Kent begin reply

ECB Reporters Network06-Sep-2020

Darren Stevens celebrates yet another scalp•Getty Images

Kent allrounder Darren Stevens took his third five-wicket haul of the summer and the 29th of an illustrious career as Hampshire succumbed for 191 inside 75 overs on the opening day of their Willis Trophy south group clash in Canterbury. The 44-year-old bowled 27 overs in four separate stints to finish with a season’s best 5 for 37. The veteran, making his fifth red-ball appearance of a shortened campaign, has now taken 25 wickets at the frugal average of 16.68 apiece. In the 13 overs through to the close, Kent lost both their openers in fast-fading light. Jordan Cox was caught at slip off teenager Scott Currie and Daniel Bell-Drummond had his off stump trimmed by Ian Holland as the hosts went in at stumps on 21 for 2 to trail by 170 going into day two.Batting first after losing the toss in overcast conditions, Hampshire openers Joe Weatherley and Holland made a cautious and watchful start scoring 36 runs in the opening hour. Matt Milnes gave Kent their opening breakthrough in the 23rd over when Holland’s airy back-foot waft outside off stump flew off the shoulder of the bat to Heino Kuhn at slip.Milnes should had picked up a second scalp soon after when Tom Alsop, cutting with just a single to his name, was downed in the gully by Marcus O’Riordan. Weatherley, on 37, went in the next over, however, leg before when playing inside the line of a full-length away-swinger from Podmore as the visitors lunched on 89 for 2.Alsop added seven to his score before departing soon after the resumption. Prodding at one that ran away from the left-hander, Alsop edged Stevens, who had switched to bowl down the Nackington Road slope, for Kuhn to take a second catch at slip. Two balls later Felix Organ, off balance and working to leg, played across a straight one from Stevens to go lbw and make it 99 for 4.With the floodlights on for the second time Stevens, now swinging the ball at will under cloudy skies, bagged his third by getting one to float up the hill and feather the outside edge of Sam Northeast’s bat for the simplest of catches to the keeper. The Hampshire skipper departed for 16, then Lewis McManus followed in near identical fashion in Stevens’ next over.Lewis Scriven should have joined them with his score on 3 but Robinson dropped a diving chance away to his right off the bowling of Grant Stewart.Stevens rested after a fabulous stint of 10-7-16-4, but Scriven’s let off counted for nought when he nibbled one from Milnes to Robinson, who this time made no mistake. Robinson took an even better catch three balls later, tumbling away to his right to claim the outside edge off Mason Crane’s bat as he pushed in defence off the back foot.Ninth-wicket partners Brad Wheal and Currie dug in after tea adding 46 before Currie, the first-class debutant on 38, fenced at a Podmore lifter to Robinson behind the timbers.Stevens wrapped it up soon after, bagging his third five-wicket return of the season when Ajeet Dale dabbed an away-swinger to the keeper for Robinson’s sixth catch of the day. Stevens starred, but Milnes with 3 for 54 and Podmore, 2for 49, offered excellent support.

Man Utd hit the jackpot with free signing now worth the same as Bruno

Bruno Fernandes. A true leader who knows exactly what it means and takes to wear the Manchester United shirt.

On his Man of the Match debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020, it was obvious that the 29-year-old was destined to lead the side out the Old Trafford tunnel, and since then, he’s gone from strength to strength.

In truth, there simply aren’t enough superlatives in the dictionary to describe how priceless the Portuguese magnifico is to the Red Devils, with his 144 goal contributions in 231 matches speaking for itself.

From the fans' perspective, the captain is without doubt the Red Devils' most valuable player, but CIES Football Observatory says otherwise, with one player in particular now worth the same as Fernandes.

Scott McTominay’s United career

Since making his debut against Arsenal back in 2017, Scott McTominay has developed into a reliable first-team player for Man Utd.

Although amongst the fanbase he resembles a Marmite player, it’s no coincidence that every manager has utilised the Scot, being a favourite of Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and now Erik ten Hag.

The midfielder has racked up an impressive 250 appearances for his boyhood club, becoming known for being a "monster,” as dubbed by the Norweigan boss, standing at 6 foot 4.

As he reaches the peak of his career, McTominay has developed into a clutch player for the Red Devils, and this upturn in influence has seen his market value skyrocket.

Scott McTominay’s value in 2024

This season, McTominay has been enjoying his most successful campaign so far on a personal level, despite only starting 17 Premier League matches.

Operating mainly as a box-crashing number eight, the number 39 has found a new lease of life in his new role, which enables much more positional freedom.

The Scotland international has shown up multiple times when it matters most, notably scoring crucial goals against Brentford and Aston Villa to turn two points into six.

With one game left in the league season, the midfielder has netted seven goals, which makes him United’s joint-third-highest scorer. It’s also his best return of his career thus far, surpassing his four-goal 2020/21 campaign.

His upturn in performance has clearly had an impact on his value, as he’s now among the most valuable players in the entire United squad.

McTominay’s worth stands at an impressive £51m, which remarkably is the same as Fernandes’, who is the Red Devil with the most goals and assists this season.

One reason why the academy graduate is worth so much is simply due to the fact that he’s a goalscoring midfielder, a rather rare-to-come-by profile in the market.

Furthermore, he’s showcased his leadership qualities when called upon, wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of the Portuguese number eight, which is another desirable trait.

Overall, it’s quite clear that United truly hit the jackpot on McTominay, who cost the club £0, and if he continues to perform, his worth is only going to head in one direction.

'He is the best player in the world!' – Pundit wowed by in-form Cole Palmer as he claims Chelsea star is 'levels above' Arsenal's Bukayo Saka

Former Tottenham Hotspur star and pundit Jamie O'Hara has claimed that Chelsea's Cole Palmer is 'levels above' Arsenal star Bukayo Saka.

'Palmer and Yamal levels above Saka' – O'HaraFormer midfielder claims Saka 'isn't world class'Says Palmer is the 'best player in the world'Follow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

Palmer has arguably been the best player in the Premier League this season alongside Erling Haaland as the England star has scored six goals and provided four assists in six Premier League matches. However, Palmer's form has not been isolated to this season, as he scored 25 goals in all competitions.

AdvertisementGettyTHE BIGGER PICTURE

O'Hara has now brought up a comparison between Palmer and Arsenal's Saka which has been a very common debate between Premier League and Three Lions fans. The former Wolves and Spurs midfielder has now claimed that players like Barcelona's Lamine Yamal and Palmer play at a much higher level than Saka and also claimed that the Gunners star "isn't world class".

WHAT O'HARA SAID

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, O'Hara said: "Bukayo Saka isn't world class. He’s a great player in a very good team, but I look at guys like Cole Palmer and Lamine Yamal, who in my opinion are world-class players. They're a level above Saka – it's as simple as that.

"Yamal looks set to be the star man at Barcelona for the coming years and you know they’ll win trophies with him; so I’d have him over Saka for starters. Palmer also looks like the best player in the Premier League, which means you can argue that he is the best player in the world.

"I might be getting carried away there, but Palmer looks like he can do anything on a football pitch, nothing fazes him at all. As I said, Saka is a great player, but Palmer is another level."

8/10 Man Utd star with 100% dribbles was even better than Mainoo

Manchester United are FA Cup Champions for the 13th time! They beat bitter rivals Manchester City 2-1 at a sunny Wembley stadium, to win the iconic competition once again and end the season on a high note.

First-half goals from academy graduates Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were enough to get United over the line, despite a late scare after Jeremy Doku pulled one back for City in the 87th minute.

Garnacho was somewhat gifted his goal, following a lapse in communication between Stefan Ortega and Josko Gvardiol. The youngster pounced on the loose ball after some good pressure and simply passed it into an open net 30 minutes in.

It was just nine minutes later when Mainoo doubled his side’s lead, capping off a delightful move which included an inch-perfect long pass by Marcus Rashford and a first-time, no-look assist courtesy of Bruno Fernandes. Mainoo slotted cooly past Ortega before celebrating in front of the Man City fans.

United withstood the pressure piled on by City, with Andre Onana making some superb saves to deny Kyle Walker twice. Although he should have stopped Doku’s effort going on, United held on to win the cup.

There were some stellar performances across the board from United, particularly in midfield, where one of their young stars ran the show against City.

Kobbie Mainoo's game vs Man City in numbers

There were many viable contenders for the official Player of the Match award, but Mainoo was the man who claimed the prize. Aside from his wonderful goal, he put in an excellent performance across the board, and his award was more than justified.

As per Sofaccore, Mainoo’s 31 touches included a completion rate of 84% of his passes on that hallowed Wembley turf, a total of 21 out of 25. He also completed his sole dribble of the game and made one, vital clearance. Plus his winning goal. It was a pivotal performance.

It was such an impressive performance that The Manchester Evening News’ Chief United writer Samuel Luckhurst gave the 19-year-old a 9/10 for his efforts at Wembley. He noted how Mainoo 'capped a wonderful six months' during his first full season with United’s first team.

Indeed, it could be the start of a summer to remember for the young midfielder. He is part of England’s 33-man training camp for Euro 2024 and seems destined to make the squad in the summer. It certainly feels like we are witnessing the start of a legendary career.

Bruno Fernandes' game vs Man City in numbers

Perhaps even better than Mainoo on the day was United’s captain, Fernandes, whose match-winning assist to set up the 19-year-old England international was sublime. The perfectly waited, first-time ball into Mainoo was impressive enough, but he did it without looking; a dream assist in an FA Cup final.

Fernandes actually received one less rating than Mainoo got from Luckhurst, just an 8/10 for the United captain. He explained Fernandes’ performance kept up with 'his status as Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year', and described his pass to Mainoo as 'exquisite'.

It is safe to say that Fernandes’ stats reflected his wonderful performance at Wembley. He has 52 touches of the ball, winning all five of his tackles and an impressive eight of his 11 duels. Most importantly though, Fernandes’ creative influence shone through, creating five chances and one big chance, as well as registering his assist for Mainoo.

It was the perfect end to the season for United’s Player of the Year, continuing his fine late-season form into the biggest day on United fans’ calendars in 2023/24. His focus will now turn to helping Portugal lift Euro 2024.

If that really was Erik ten Hag’s last game as United manager, it was the perfect way to go. He has now won two trophies in his two seasons in charge. He said it himself at full time; winning trophies, “it’s what I do”.
