WHAT HAPPENED?
Kone swapped Malian side Guidars FC for United this summer and since then he has played for the club's under-19 and under-21 sides. The 18-year-old admitted "you don't turn down" the Red Devils if they come calling and that he wants to succeed where other United youngsters, such as Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo, have done before him.

WHAT SEKOU KONE SAID
He told Africa Foot: “At first, I didn’t expect to sign for Manchester United. When I was presented with the offer, I was on cloud nine. Manchester United are a great club in world football and I can only be delighted with this choice, which will enable me to move up the ladder.
“It’s a demanding club that has won the title 20 times. It’s also a club that knows how to spot good opportunities. They made a big offer for a kid from Mali, despite the fact that I had everything to prove. And to be honest, you can’t turn down Manchester United. I’ve always said to myself that it was a choice of the heart, because I’ve loved Manchester United since I was a kid.
“I understand the concern about my future in the short term, but I’m not worried at all. A lot of youngsters have been launched, like CR7, Rashford and most recently Mainoo, and the new coach is a fan of the beautiful game and loves youngsters too. I just need to work really hard and grab my chance when it comes.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Kone joined United despite interest from Liverpool and Wolves earlier this year. The Mali teenager will have had an excellent career if he is mentioned in the same breath as Ronaldo and Rashford when it comes to young United gems.

Kone, who has made two appearances for United's under-21 side this season, will be targeting a first-team debut under head coach Ruben Amorim at some point in the not-so-distant future.
Nottingham Forest have made some brilliant signings in recent seasons since their promotion back to the Premier League, spending a bucket load as they look to strengthen their side and avoid relegation.
So far, that has been a success for the East Midlands club. They are now into their third season in the top flight since promotion, and it has seen them finish out of the relegation zone twice in a row.
In 2022/23, Forest came 16th on 38 points, just two points clear of 18th place Leicester City, and 17th last season, six points ahead of relegated Luton Town.
Forest’s major signings since promotion
There have certainly been some huge deals at the City Ground which have helped to just about keep Forest in the top flight. They have now had five transfer windows since coming up from the Championship and have signed a whooping 58 players, including free transfers and loan moves.
Perhaps the most notable of these was Morgan Gibbs-White. The attacking midfielder made the move across the Midlands to join Forest from Wolves for around £42.5m and has since become a key man for the former European Cup winners.
The 24-year-old has played 83 times for the club, scoring 12 goals and registering 18 assists. He is already off the mark this season and has been rewarded with a first England cap against Ireland on Saturday. Gibbs-White has been pivotal in their bid for survival so far.
Two of the other notable signings since promotion in 2021/22 were former Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga, who cost £15m, and Chelsea academy graduate Callum Hudson-Odoi, who signed for Forest on a three-year deal.
The wingers have already made waves in the Garibaldi Red so far, and that has seen a real spike in their transfer values. According to Transfermarkt, Sweden international Elanga is now worth £18.5m, and the former Chelsea attacker Hudson-Odoi was valued at a whopping £40m according to reports over the summer.
However, there has been another marquee signing at the City Ground during the past few years, who has proven to be an even better deal than the dynamic wingers.
Murillo’s transfer value in 2024
The player in question here is Brazilian centre-back Murillo. The 22-year-old joined the club from Brazilian outfit Corinthians for a fee in the region of £15m and signed a five-year contract in the East Midlands.
He has been superb for the club since joining last summer. The Brazilian, who is yet to be capped at international level, has made 39 appearances at the City Ground, helping to keep five clean sheets so far. He has yet to register a goal for the club.
Nottingham Forest defender Murillo
Murillo’s impressive performances saw him slapped with a hefty £70m price tag over the summer by Forest. a rise of around 337% since his initial move. That asking price came in the midst of interest from West London outfit Chelsea, who considered a move for the defender.
That sees him valued at a higher price than any of his Forest teammates, including both Elanga and Hudson-Odoi, showing his impressive performances certainly had merit to them so far.
Murillo
To make things even sweeter for Forest, he is amongst one of the lowest earners at the club. According to Capology, Muriallo is currently earning £30k per week, the ninth lowest amount in the Forest wage structure.

Football scout Antonio Mango described the former Corinthians defender as a “commanding and productive” defender and should the East Midlands outfit decide to sell Murillo at some stage in the coming months, they can expect to get a healthy profit on the deal.
However, right now, he will play a key part in their Premier League survival for another season.

James Bracey set to debut behind stumps, as England call up Billings, Hameed
Andrew Miller26-May-2021Ben Foakes has torn his left hamstring in a dressing-room accident and will miss the two-Test series against New Zealand, starting at Lord’s on June 2, with James Bracey set to debut in his place as wicketkeeper.Foakes, who had been in line to play his maiden home Test series after finishing the recent tour of India as England’s incumbent keeper, sustained the injury after slipping in his socks while walking through the Surrey dressing-room following their drawn LV= County Championship fixture against Middlesex on Sunday.Foakes’ assessment and rehabilitation will be managed by the Surrey medical team. However, in a statement, the ECB said that he was expected to be out of action for at least three months, meaning he is unlikely to play any part in the five-Test series against India that starts at Trent Bridge on August 4.In Foakes’ absence, Bracey is in line to take over the keeper’s role for his Test debut. Bracey has been a part of England’s bio-secure bubble since the home series against West Indies last July, and was already widely tipped to make his debut as a batter at some stage in the series. However, the other established wicketkeepers in England’s ranks – Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow – are both missing from the current squad, having been rested following their involvement in the IPL, which was postponed earlier this month due to India’s surge in Covid cases. As a consequence, Sam Billings has been drafted into the Test squad as cover. Though he was also at the IPL, as a non-playing squad member at Delhi Capitals, Billings’ winter was interrupted by a shoulder injury, sustained during his solitary ODI appearance at Pune. He returned to action as Kent’s captain last week, making 11 against Glamorgan in his first County Championship appearance of the season.James Bracey is expected to keep wicket on debut after a long period in the England bubble•AFP via Getty Images
Given that Bracey was effectively covering for two roles in England’s squad, the coach Chris Silverwood has also recalled the Nottinghamshire opener Haseeb Hameed, who played each of his three Tests against India in 2016-17, before breaking his hand and suffering a subsequent loss of form for his former club, Lancashire.Hameed, however, has started the 2021 season impressively, making 474 runs at 52.66 to help Nottinghamshire end a three-year win drought with three victories in a row. He is due to play in the forthcoming Championship fixture against Warwickshire at Edgbaston, starting on Thursday, before linking up with the England squad at their London base on Sunday night. The timing of Foakes’ injury would be cruel for any player, but it is particularly unfortunate given how long he has had to wait to be given an extended run in England’s Test squad. He was first selected for England’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2018-19, and immediately impressed with a matchwinning hundred on debut in Galle. However, he was squeezed out of the XI after an ill-balanced team slumped to two Test defeats on England’s subsequent tour of West Indies.Related

Despite being widely considered the best gloveman in English cricket, Foakes was made to wait another two years for his next Test opportunity, when Buttler flew home for the final three Tests of England’s tour of India, as part of the management’s rest and rotation policy. His wicketkeeping immediately stood out in tough conditions, as he pulled off three stumpings in the second Test at Chennai, although he was unable to better the unbeaten 42 that he made in the first innings of that match.Speaking to London’s Evening Standard in the build-up to the Lord’s Test, Foakes admitted he was looking forward to his home England debut after eight overseas appearances (as well as a one-off ODI against Ireland in Malahide and a T20I in Cardiff in 2019), but said that he recognised that opportunities at the highest level could be few and far between.”You can preoccupy with the external stuff that’s not in your control,” he said. “I am not wondering how many games I might get. I just want to get picked, and treat it for what it is – a game. I’m not worried about any add-ons. I would like to get runs and catch well, but I wouldn’t say I’m trying to put reminders in peoples’ minds or anything like that. I’m just trying to do well.”
Glasgow Rangers manager Philippe Clement managed to get a few high earners off the wage bill at the end of last season.
John Lundstram, Kemar Roofe, Ryan Jack and Borna Barisic all departed Ibrox after varying degrees of success, but the clearout helped Clement bring in several new players during the summer transfer window.
Rangers defender Borna Barisic.
Lundstram was perhaps the most polarising figure out of the four. Capable of producing wonder purple patches during his spell at the Light Blues, the Englishman was never consistent enough to perform solidly on a regular basis.

John Lundstram’s Rangers statistics
Lundstram was signed in the immediate aftermath of the successful 2020/21 campaign, which saw the Gers win their first league title in a decade under the tutelage of Steven Gerrard.
John Lundstram
Having played in the Premier League with Sheffield United, luring him north of the border on a free transfer was seen as a major coup for the club, one that Gerrard hoped could carry the momentum from the 2020/21 campaign into the new season.
The midfielder ended up playing 48 matches across all competitions for the Gers, yet he failed to really shine in the top flight as the club lost their title to Celtic.
Europe was a different story, however. Lundstram appeared in all but one of the club’s Europa League fixtures as they reached the final after a stunning run after Christmas, seeing off the likes of Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.
The Englishman scored against both sides, including the winner against the latter in the semifinals, endearing himself to the Ibrox faithful.
This led Ally McCoist to lavish praise on the player ahead of the Europa League final, saying: "His form the last couple of months has been nothing short of magnificent. He's become a cult hero."
The following two seasons failed to see him perform the way he did during this wonderful run in Europe, struggling domestically as Celtic won every trophy minus the 2023 League Cup.
Overall, Lundstram made more than 150 appearances for Rangers, registering 20 goal contributions in the process, but there is a feeling that his spell in Scotland could have been better if he was more consistent, rather than sparkling in spells.
Rangers midfielder John Lundstram.
His departure freed up a good chunk of the wage bill. Might Clement forget all about him by signing another midfielder before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month?
Rangers' search to replace Lundstram
According to a report from the Daily Record earlier this week, the Light Blues are keeping tabs on Benfica starlet Martim Nemo as a loan deal has been touted for the player.
Nemo has played just once for Benfica, but was given some minutes during pre-season and manager Roger Schmidt stated the midfielder could depart again if he so wishes, saying:
"Martim has done well at Gil Vicente after the injury he sustained. "Regardless of whether the players go on loan or not, we have to accept things as they are. With all the players who leave Benfica, the idea is to give them the opportunity to develop and gain confidence.
"And of course it is always an excellent opportunity for Benfica. The idea is to have a good overview of all the players, but we have to make difficult decisions later on because we have to respect the player's own wishes."
This could give Clement an ideal chance to sign the youngster on a temporary deal, which could turn into a £2.5m purchase next summer should the Ibrox side decide to sign him permanently.
Why Martim Nemo could be a dream signing for Connor Barron
Nemo spent last season on loan at Portuguese side Gil Vicente, operating in a deep lying role as he made a total of 33 appearances for the club, scoring once and grabbing two assists.
The 21-year-old showed a willingness to get on the ball often, averaging over 40 touches per game, while he also succeeded with 0.9 dribbles per match – a success rate of 82% – showing that he enjoys getting forward often and beating his man.
Lauded by scout Jacek Kulig as an “exciting” talent along with several other Benfica youngsters back in 2021, Nemo may soon have to leave the club in order to secure regular first-team football.
In the Portuguese top flight last term, Nemo ranked in the top 20% for progressive carries (2.22), the top 4% for successful take-on percentage (77.1%), the top 10% for ball recoveries (7.13) and the top 17% for tackles in the middle third (1.25) per 90 when compared to his positional peers.
This clearly showcases his talents, despite playing for a team that finished in 12th position last season, underlining his importance.
Alongside Barron, Nemo could form a dream partnership with the former Aberdeen gem, as the two would look to control things in the middle of the pitch, allowing those in front of them to operate more freely.
This could see a young, vibrant, central midfielder duo formed by Clement. With Barron already shining for the club since moving from the Dons, adding another young sensation into the starting XI may give him add room for some extra freedom.
Much will depend who Clement can shift out of the door between now and the deadline on Friday evening, but bringing in a talent like Nemo could be a stroke of genius.
Phillipe Clement
Of course, adding in another one or two experienced players may be the route the Belgian goes down, but if a chance to sign Nemo arises, then it must be taken.
This initial £2.5m investment could soon see the Light Blues make a substantial profit on their investment in the next few years.
There could be a flurry of activity happening at Ibrox over the next five days. Watch this space.

Bayern Munich are desperate to try and tie down star man Jamal Musiala to a new contract amid interest from Liverpool, according to reports, with Arne Slot’s side ready to rival Manchester City for the forward’s signature.
Slot's strong start at Anfield
Though bizzarely overlooked for the Premier League’s manager of the month award, it was a perfect August for Arne Slot in his new role as Liverpool boss. He oversaw three wins from three, scoring seven goals without reply in the process as his side blew away Manchester United after wins against Brentford and newly promoted Ipswich Town.
One of just two sides (the other being Manchester City) to have taken maximum points from the first three games, the Dutchman appears to have rejuvenated a stale-looking Liverpool side even without much summer business, and is finding a way to get the best out of the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, the former of whom struggled under Jürgen Klopp in his final season.
Though there will undoubtedly be bumps in the road across the course of the season, but it has been a sensational start from the former Feyenoord coach.

But the prospect of personnel problems continues to loom amid the contracts of key trio Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk all coming to an end in 2025, something that Slot has done his best to avoid being dragged into.
“It’s again the boring answer you are going to get from me as long as there is no news. We don’t talk about contract situations here”, Slot explained. “Is it a distraction? No, it isn’t because I’m fully focused on the individuals and the team.
“They are part of the team and I’m trying to work with them in the best possible way to get the best out of them. It’s not a distraction for me at all.”
But should any of their stars leave, Liverpool may feel the need to make a marquee signing to replace them, leaving Bayern Munich on red alert.
Bayern keen to tie down Musiala amid Premier League interest
That comes as Caught Offside report that Liverpool are showing “increasing interest” in Bayern Munich talent Jamal Musiala, who is down to the final two years of his contract in Bavaria. The Germany international has emerged as a world-class talent at the Allianz Arena, and Bayern are “confident” of keeping him at the club under fresh terms before his current deal comes to an end, but as of yet have made little progress.
Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala.
Should they fail to do so there will be no shortage of interest in his services, and the report claims that both Manchester City and Liverpool are among his suitors.
His massive talent comes with a similarly massive fee, with Bayern ready to demand a record £150m for his services should they become resigned to his exit, though both Liverpool and City have shown previously that money is no problem should the right player become available, and neither side spent heavily in the 2024 summer window.

European giants PSG and Real Madrid would also likely be interested, but with the star-studded line up already at the Santiago Bernabeu and Jude Bellingham in Musiala’s role, a move to the Spanish capital may be difficult.
While at present it seems likely that Musiala remains at the Allianz Arena, Liverpool are positioning themselves towards the head of the queue should he change his mind.
From the 777 saga to Friedkin Group's failure, Everton's wait for new owners has been one full of twists and turns, but John Textor could finally be the man to break that trend of frustration after he confirmed a major hurdle is close to being cleared.
Everton takeover news
For almost the entirety of last season, 777 Partners looked destined to complete their takeover of Everton, only to eventually be denied Premier League approval. And as things turn out, the Premier League made the correct decision, given the financial troubles that 777's portfolio of clubs have been hit with since the turn of the year.
It was then the turn of Friedkin Group to enter talks that ultimately ended in further failure. After opening discussions, the potential buyers quickly pulled out of any deal and ended talks, citing Everton's debt to 777 as the reason for their hesitance.

In limbo ever since, Textor has become the latest prospective owner, but must first sell the 45% that he owns in fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace. Textor told Sky Sports that his exclusivity rights last until November 30 with Everton in the hope of getting a deal over the line.
Textor confirms bids for Palace and Everton deadline
Providing an update on both the sale of his percentage in Crystal Palace and takeover of Everton, Textor told Sky Sports: "I'm in an awkward spot but we're working through it. The awkward spot is that I can understand the club's position… the accounting position and I feel it's manageable in terms of the PSR problem.
"I don't quite know the Premier League's perspective on that because there's a bit of a Chinese Wall between me as an owner of Crystal Palace and what I'm really allowed to know as a prospective owner of another team in the same division.
John Textor at Botofogo.
"But I do think we're developing solutions for that information gap and I feel we're in the very last days of getting our comfort around that. We just hope from the moment we arrive, we can start looking up the table, not down it."
Perhaps most importantly, he confirmed two bids for Palace: "We have 14 groups interested in Palace who are very qualified and we have five that went to the next level and now we have two who have made good bids, while there is also the possibility that our partners might still want it as they love the club as much as I do.
"We're into the final week or two of knowing who the buyer will be. The contract I have with Farhad gives us a lot of time for that as November 30 is our deadline set to make sure we can complete it.”
As things stand, those at Goodison Park can take that as a positive update with more good news potentially on the horizon. They will know more than anyone just how quickly things can change in search of new owners, however.
Arsenal have been offered a late chance to sign a £42 million forward for manager Mikel Arteta, and one who pundit Rio Ferdinand has previously called "unbelievable".
Arsenal scouring transfer market for new attacker after Merino deal
The Gunners are believed to be open to the possibility of bringing in a new attacker before the transfer window cut-off on August 31, so their £32 million deal for Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad may not be their last piece of summer business.

The Spain international was officially confirmed as Edu Gaspar and co's latest arrival of the window earlier this week, with Merino putting pen to paper on a long-term contract after impressing at Sociedad last season and his with his country at Euro 2024.
Merino scored eight goals and assisted five others in 45 appearances across all competitions last season, and played a role in Spain's triumph at the Euros in Germany, with the midfielder making a promise to supporters in an interview with Arsenal's official website.
“I think that’s a big part of my game and that shows the character that I have," said Merino on his impressive record of winning duels.
"I want to fight for every ball and this is something that I learnt when I was really young. Maybe you can win it, or you won’t. I’m not promising I will win every duel, but what I can promise is that I will fight for every ball with 100 per cent.
“It’s always tough to talk about myself in those kinds of terms, but I think I’m a hard worker, I want to call myself a good teammate. I like to work for the team with or without the ball. I’m always thinking about the collective aspect of the game. I like to play with the ball, I have a Spanish culture of football.”
Arsenal had been targeting Merino's former teammate Martin Zubimendi, before ultimately landing on the ex-Newcastle United ace instead, with £32m looking likely to prove good value.

Following their move for Merino, it is believed Arsenal could look to bring in a new attacker, with Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman linked in the last week.
Arsenal offered chance to sign Kingsley Coman
According to GiveMeSport and journalist Dean Jones, Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Coman this summer, with little other information than that shared in the report.
It has been claimed elsewhere that the Frenchman could cost as much as £42 million to sign from Bayern, and Fabrizio Romano says Coman is "one to watch" in terms of a late-window exit.
Bayern's Kingsley Coman
While the 28-year-old has played precious few minutes under Vincent Kompany so far this season, he's got big-game experience and quality when at his very best, with pundit Ferdinand calling him "unbelievable".
"He was at PSG as an eight-year-old boy," said Ferdinand on Coman in 2020. "With the money that came in with the Qataris, he was one of the players who were offloaded and he's come back and done this. His trophy haul since leaving – it shouldn't be allowed. It's unbelievable. The kid knows how to win."

The 27-year-old has continued to struggle on the fitness front, with Arne Slot yet to be convinced that he is ready to play a regular role for the Premier League leaders. Chiesa has figured in just one top-flight game for Liverpool, while his only start came in a Carabao Cup win over West Ham.
WHAT SLOT HAS SAID
Three of Chiesa’s four appearances for Liverpool came in September 2024, with his last minutes seen off the bench on December 18. Slot has said of the Italy international: "If a player is out for five or six months, you cannot expect [him to be at his best straight away]. Normally in a pre-season a player gets three, four or five games, especially. And then he’s only had four or five weeks now he’s out for so long, so to get him back to his best level is not easy."
