£120,000-per-week Spurs outcast ready to terminate contract – report

A Tottenham Hotspur star has reportedly signalled his intention to rip up his current contract in N17 and leave as a free agent as he desperately seeks a new club, perhaps even before the January transfer window opens.

Spurs shine with emphatic win over champions

Spurs enjoyed a thumping 4-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday, which Ange Postecoglou described as “outstanding.”

While it was James Maddison who stole the headlines on the night thanks to his superb brace, it was Spurs’ defensive duo of Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin that impressed Big Ange the most.

The pair, who are standing in for injured first-choices Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, were heavily criticised after Tottenham’s recent 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray in the Europa League.

Against City, however, they both made strong cases to keep their places in the team.

Guglielmo Vicario and Radu Dragusin celebrate for Tottenham

“I thought they were all great,” Postecoglou said after the win when asked about the pair’s performances.”You have to be against City because obviously they’ve got big Erling [Haaland] up there, but the way they deliver the ball, the areas they consistently probe, you’ve got to be focused the whole time and I thought Ben and Radu were really focused.

“I think when you play City, you can’t rely on individuals to find solutions out there and collectively, I thought we defended really well.”

Spurs outcast wants out

Spurs’ defence has been vital to their good form this season. The Lilywhites are currently sixth in the Premier League, three points behind third-placed Chelsea, and have conceded just 13 goals in 12 games. Only three teams – Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle United – have conceded fewer.

Though Postecoglou has mostly started with a back four of Destiny Udogie, Romero, Van de Ven and Pedro Porro, he’s also given minutes to Davies, Dragusin, Archie Gray and Djed Spence. One man who hasn’t had a sniff, however, is Sergio Reguilon.

Serge Reguilon in action for Tottenham.

The Spain international has been selected by Postecoglou for one matchday squad this season, that being in a 3-2 EFL Cup third-round win over Coventry City back in September, where he was an unused substitute.

Amid his lack of game time, Reguilon is now, according to the Sunday Mirror (via Football.london), ready to terminate his Tottenham contract in order to force a move away from north London in January.

The Mirror reports that Reguilon, who reportedly earns £120,000 per week at Spurs, wants the club to agree to a mutual contract termination amid interest from clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

Reguilon joined Tottenham from Real Madrid for a fee of £25 million in the summer of 2020. Though he enjoyed a decent first two years in England, he’s since been an outcast at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, spending the last two years out on loan with Sevilla, Manchester United and Brentford.

Reguilon’s last appearance for Spurs came all the way back in April 2022. According to Spanish media, Reguilon could be offered a route back to his home country by way of La Liga side Getafe, who are viewed as candidates to sign the defender and give him a new permanent home.

Gabriel Jesus update with Edu and Arteta set for crunch Arsenal talks

An update has come to light on the future of Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus, with sporting director Edu Gaspar and manager Mikel Arteta set for crunch internal talks.

Arsenal targeting new striker for 2025 and it could be in January

Kai Havertz’s fine start to the new Premier League season, picking up where he left off last campaign, hasn’t affected Edu’s plans to eventually bring in a new number nine who can be that 20-plus goals per season frontman.

Reports in the build-up to January have suggested that Arsenal are on the lookout to sign a new striker for 2025, and it could even be January, with well-connected former recruitment chief Mick Brown claiming that the addition of a forward is entirely possible at the turn of the year.

Havertz has been brilliant recently,” said Brown to Football Insider.

You have to give people like that a lot of credit because questions have been asked of him and a lot of people would have shied away. But he’s done a great job for them. You have to credit Mikel Arteta because he’s brought this out of him. I’ve heard, though, that if there was the right option out there, Arsenal still want to buy somebody in that position.

The problem is there’s not a long list of players who are good enough to play that role and are also available to come to the Premier League. Arsenal won’t want to waste any money they have on a player they don’t need.

They’ll be prudent, but I know they’ll be looking for areas they can improve, and I think that will be one even with Havertz playing as well as he has been.”

This also comes amid Jesus’ questionable form. The Brazilian is yet to get off the mark in all competitions this season, leading to doubts about his suitability to lead the line for Arsenal going forward.

Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus

There are suggestions that Jesus could leave Arsenal and Arteta is a real fan of Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush as his replacement – among other potential targets.

Gabriel Jesus set for exit talks with Edu and Arteta at Arsenal

According to GiveMeSport this week, Jesus is in line for internal exit talks with Arsenal. It is believed both Edu and Arteta will be involved in these discussions as well, with the ex-Man City star pondering his future despite retaining the faith of his manager.

The £265,000-per-week forward isn’t keen on playing a bit-part role during this stage of his career, which is exactly what has happened this season, considering he’s played just 89 minutes of league action this season and was an unused substitute in their 2-0 loss at Bournemouth.

Arteta openly spoke about his importance to the team earlier this year, though, calling the South American a “very important” player.

“Their contribution is super important, and we are really happy to have them,” said Arteta on Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

“They certainly were two players who helped us to accelerate the process and generate belief and their presence has been very important for our success.”

Move over Sarr & Werner: Spurs star put in a monstrous 9/10 display vs City

It might have got a bit tense towards the end, but Tottenham Hotspur put in a stellar performance against Manchester City last night.

Ange Postecoglou’s side went into the game with a lot to prove after their dismal display against Crystal Palace on the weekend and ended up booking their place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.

There were stand-out performers front to back from the North Londoners, and while Timo Werner and Pape Matar Sarr have taken up a lot of the headlines, and rightly so, there was another star who was sensational during his time on the pitch.

Werner and Sarr's performances

Yes, when talking about the best Spurs players from last night, it would be crazy not to start with Werner and Sarr, as, after all, it’s thanks to their goals that the team will play Manchester United in the next round.

The German was the first to put the ball in the back of the net, doing so in just the eighth minute, and while he failed to add another to his tally, the former Chelsea man was a constant threat and, on another day, could have bagged himself a hat-trick.

In fact, had he not scored the opener, he would probably have been receiving pelters from the fans today, as during his 69 minutes of action, he took four shots and missed a big chance in the 15th minute.

Still, overall, it was an excellent shift from the 28-year-old, and he received a fully deserved 8/10 match rating from LondonWorld’s Rahman Osman at full-time.

Fellow goalscorer Sarr received a slightly lower rating of 7/10 from Osman, and while that might sound a little harsh, it’s probably fair, as aside from getting on the scoresheet, which ultimately proved vital, the young midfielder didn’t do a lot else.

Now, that doesn’t mean he was bad either, far from it, but his only other stand-out statistic from his 49 minutes of football was his 100% passing accuracy, and thanks to the player who replaced him at halftime, his presence wasn’t really missed in the second 45.

Yves Bissouma's performance in numbers

Yes, the Spurs star who was at least as good, if not better, than Werner and Sarr was Yves Bissouma.

The Mali international replaced the young Senegalese star at half-time and proceeded to put in a monstrous performance at the heart of midfield, helping out in attack here and there but, most importantly, giving everything he had to ensure City couldn’t get a second goal and draw level.

For example, in the dying embers of the game, it felt more and more likely that Pep Guardiola’s men would finally break through, and at one point, it looked like they had, only for the 28-year-old to stick out his leg and block a shot on the line from Nico O’Reilly that had everyone else beat.

Unsurprisingly, Osman reserved his highest rating on the night for the former Brighton & Hove Albion ace, giving him a 9/10, and based on some of his statistics from the game, it’s easy to see why.

In just 51 minutes of action, he maintained a passing accuracy of 92%, completed a long ball, lost the ball just a single time, blocked a shot, made two interceptions, one tackle, committed two fouls and made that dramatic clearance off the line.

Ultimately, Werner and Sarr deserve plenty of credit for scoring the goals last night, but Spurs came out of that second half without conceding a second goal, primarily thanks to the sensational efforts of Bissouma.

The role was vacant following Bev Priestman's dismissal in November, as a result of a drone scandal at the Olympic Games. One was spotted over a training session of New Zealand, Canada's first opponent of the tournament last summer, and investigations led to Priestman being suspended, the team being docked six points at the Games and, eventually, the head coach and two other members of staff, being fired for filming an opposition training session.

Canada have now filled the role on a permanent basis, with an impressive appointment in Stoney. After three strong years at Manchester United, the former England captain enjoyed an even more successful time in the NWSL with San Diego, leading the Wave to the playoffs in its inaugural season before winning the NWSL Shield and NWSL Challenge Cup in the following two years. That made her dismissal by the club in June quite a surprise, even though the team were enduring a rough patch of form.

WHAT STONEY SAID

"I am honoured to join Canada Soccer as the head coach of the women’s national team," Stoney said upon the announcement of her appointment. "Canada has a proud tradition in women’s football, and I am excited to work with such a talented group of players. Together with the federation’s new leadership, we will strive to build on past successes and continue to grow the sport in Canada on and off the field. I look forward to the journey ahead and to engaging with the incredible passion of Canadian soccer fans."

Kevin Blue, CEO and General Secretary of Canada Soccer, added: "We are thrilled to welcome Casey Stoney as head coach of the women’s national team. Casey’s track record of successful leadership, her values and strength of character, and her lifelong dedication to the advancement of women’s football make her the right person to lead our national team into its next chapter."

Textor reveals Everton takeover deadline as Crystal Palace bids confirmed

From the 777 saga to Friedkin Group's failure, Everton's wait for new owners has been one full of twists and turns, but John Textor could finally be the man to break that trend of frustration after he confirmed a major hurdle is close to being cleared.

Everton takeover news

For almost the entirety of last season, 777 Partners looked destined to complete their takeover of Everton, only to eventually be denied Premier League approval. And as things turn out, the Premier League made the correct decision, given the financial troubles that 777's portfolio of clubs have been hit with since the turn of the year.

It was then the turn of Friedkin Group to enter talks that ultimately ended in further failure. After opening discussions, the potential buyers quickly pulled out of any deal and ended talks, citing Everton's debt to 777 as the reason for their hesitance.

In limbo ever since, Textor has become the latest prospective owner, but must first sell the 45% that he owns in fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace. Textor told Sky Sports that his exclusivity rights last until November 30 with Everton in the hope of getting a deal over the line.

Textor confirms bids for Palace and Everton deadline

Providing an update on both the sale of his percentage in Crystal Palace and takeover of Everton, Textor told Sky Sports: "I'm in an awkward spot but we're working through it. The awkward spot is that I can understand the club's position… the accounting position and I feel it's manageable in terms of the PSR problem.

"I don't quite know the Premier League's perspective on that because there's a bit of a Chinese Wall between me as an owner of Crystal Palace and what I'm really allowed to know as a prospective owner of another team in the same division.

John Textor at Botofogo.

"But I do think we're developing solutions for that information gap and I feel we're in the very last days of getting our comfort around that. We just hope from the moment we arrive, we can start looking up the table, not down it."

Perhaps most importantly, he confirmed two bids for Palace: "We have 14 groups interested in Palace who are very qualified and we have five that went to the next level and now we have two who have made good bids, while there is also the possibility that our partners might still want it as they love the club as much as I do.

"We're into the final week or two of knowing who the buyer will be. The contract I have with Farhad gives us a lot of time for that as November 30 is our deadline set to make sure we can complete it.”

As things stand, those at Goodison Park can take that as a positive update with more good news potentially on the horizon. They will know more than anyone just how quickly things can change in search of new owners, however.

He’d be better than Gyokeres: Chelsea could sign £85m star over Omorodion

Over the last week, it’s looked as though Sami Omorodion would be the man to solve Chelsea’s ongoing hunt for a new centre-forward, but it appears that deal is off for now.

The Blues had agreed a £35m deal with Atlético Madrid for the Spaniard, but journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the move wouldn’t be happening despite the agreement between the two clubs.

Omorodion would’ve been an excellent addition for Enzo Maresca’s side, providing a focal point at the top of the pitch which the Blues have been desperately lacking in recent times.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca

However, the hunt continues for the Blues, with the West London outfit no closer to securing a deal for a new striker despite the new Premier League campaign getting underway in just three days time.

As a result, they could turn to one of their former transfer targets to try and fill the void, with the Blues potentially rivalling multiple other English sides for the services of one talent.

Chelsea could make move for £85m striker this summer

During this transfer window, numerous different strikers have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, but all links have been to no avail, with Nicolas Jackson still the club’s main centre-forward.

Maresca could re-enter the race to sign Porto’s Brazilian centre forward Evanilson after previously being linked to sign the 24-year-old.

He managed to score 13 goals in the Liga Portugal last season, ending the campaign as the club’s top scorer as they finished third behind Sporting CP and Benfica.

It’s rumoured that Evanilson has a €100m (£85m) release clause in his current deal, with Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest both in the race, but highly unlikely to pay the aforementioned fee for his services.

He could be seen as an alternative to one player who’s also been touted with a move to West London this summer, proving to be a better fit for Maresca’s system.

Why Evanilson would be a better option than Gyokeres

Sporting forward Viktor Gyokeres is another talisman who has constantly been rumoured to be on the club’s shortlist to provide the added goal threat wanted by Maresca.

Sporting CP strikerViktor Gyokeres.

He registered a total of 39 goals or assists in the same division as Evanilson, finishing the campaign as the league’s top scorer – averaging 1.2 goal contributions per appearance.

His ability to find the back of the net is undisputed given his figures from 2023/24, but the Brazilian could prove to be a better option for the system the Italian is trying to implement at Stamford Bridge during his debut season at the helm.

He won the league with Leicester City last season utilising a possession-based system, with an emphasis on every player being comfortable on the ball, with Evanilson fitting the bill perfectly, registering a 7% higher pass completion rate last season.

The Porto talent may have scored fewer goals than Gyokeres, but he did manage a higher goal per-shot-on-target rate, showcasing he’s more clinical with his opportunities in front of goal – potentially excelling with the likes of Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto behind him.

The “complete” forward, as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig, likes to press out of possession, whilst also running the channels, allowing for frequent opportunities in attacking areas, whilst also teeing up Palmer to allow the Englishman to increase his own goalscoring tally.

Whilst it’s unknown if Porto are willing to negotiate a deal below his release clause, Evanilson would be an excellent addition that would certainly improve Maresca’s options.

His goalscoring ability, coupled with his talents in possession could make him a handful for defenders, with the Blues potentially picking up an underrated gem.
